I like the "Don't ask, Don't tell". Are they going there to set up house like they do in prison?

Hot button issues such as this often fizzle over time. In 50 years I'm sure people will be wondering what was the big deal. Civil/Human rights always face critical points before becoming accepted.

Even if "Don't ask, Don't tell" is repealed those gays/lesbians who are in favor of keeping it the way it is will likely not reveal their sexuality. We have pro choice in this country and most women choose not to have abortions. This nation is proud to be known as being a beacon of freedom.

I can imagine it must be difficult to feel free if you had to hide your core being in order to keep your job. Like most things in life I suppose time will tell. There was a time when people didn't think women could serve in the military (in this country).

Other nations had been doing it for years. We've got bigger things to worry about these days.

They should leave well enough alone. Serving openly mean you have to hear what going on in their life. They will have naked men pictures right below your wife or girlfriend picture.

That right you get to hear about their lover. I would call this too open. I just don't like the word open because it mean everything is open to say or do.

It's definetly a complicated question, to say the least. I served for seven years, and PERSONALLY don't have an issue with gay/lesbians being allowed to serve openly, but it's probably fair to say my opinion would be in the minority on average in our armed forces. So you bring up a good point, that they may be putting themselves in jeapordy by doing so.

And I do agree, it's a tad "homophobic" to be worried about being hit on by your battlebuddy... but, on the other hand, as any enlisted soldier will tell you, "communal latrines" are still common practice in many military barracks... so is it fair to force straight soldiers to shower with gay soldiers? Don't know what the right decision is, all I know is I'm glad I'm not the one who has to make it.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
