How would I go about gettin' my book published?

There is a lot of self publishers out there that can help you self publish your book . Some of them will how many pages that your book can have and how much it will cost. I am working with one self pubisher and once I get my book self publshed the price is $500.

I will get 75% of the royalties and 40 free books to promote by myself.

Visit a site like amazon and search for books with the names and addresses of literary agents and publishing houses.

Some people self-publish, and they can help you with that.

You can also publish your work as an eBook and spread the word with a blog or hub, even. Just Google 'how to get published' or something like that and you will find some answers. Way more than I can put here in this little box.

Good luck and congratulations on your book!

Lots of info on a wide, wide range of topics. Until I started researching with places like this and the above site, I have to admit, I had no clue how little I knew. Even worse, I didn't know what to ask.

Sites like this helped me learn what I needed to learn, if that makes sense. spannet.org/ Should you decide to self-publish, this site/organization is a must. It'll guide you through the process of not just publishing, but how to run your publishing company as a business and market and promote your book.

True, they're trying to sell you their own services, but even without spending a penny with them -- I didn't -- there's tons of valuable info within.By now you're surely noticing that I'm not giving you one definitive answer.

First, there isn't one. THere are many avenues to publication and without knowing what your book is all about, the genre, style, even if it's any good, it'd be impossible for one person to tell you exactly how to do it in a simple, do this and you'll become a best selling author. You can certainly go straight to Lulu and many of the other subsidity (aka vanity presses) and get a book into print.

If that is your goal, have at it. It's a great service to folks who simply want to put out a book in limited numbers for a limited audience. Many authors find this process the right one for them and you may, too.

Go on line and check out self publishers. It's hard to get a book published or even looked at without an agent. In looking for a self publishing company, here are a couple things to look for.

Will they carry your book? For how long? Will they advertise it online?

When you go with a self publisher you won't need an agent. Traditional publishers rarely even look at your manuscripts without an agent, unless you are already a published author. The upside to self publishing is you are pretty much in control of your manuscript.

But it can become expensive, so be sure you really need something before paying for it. For example: If you are writing a children's book, most of them do not have back cover copy. So why pay for it?

The down side to self publishing, other than the expense is you can't depend on them to sell your books. For example Amazon may carry it, but you will have to let people know it's there. You will have to find creative ways to sell your book.

Hope this helps. Terri L.

Well, we went the self publishing route. There are lots of self-publishing or publish -on-demand companies available. Here are a few we have tried in Canada and the US.

Our first three books were published by Trafford in Victoria, BC. The provide services for both Canadian and US customers. We have been pleased with their product and services.

My husband writes and then prepares his books for printing using Adobe InDesign. This keeps our overall cost down and allows us to keep control over the setup. For the last book we tried two new companies.

One was BookSurge and the other was LuLu. BookSurge is a part of Amazon and is US based. Their overall cost is less than Trafford for the same level of service.

LuLu is the most reasonable if your book is print ready. They will publish it at no cost except for the price of the printed books you order. If you need assistance in preparing your manuscript for printing, all of the companies do that for an extra charge.

All of the above companies will get you book on Amazon. Some will get your book on other online booksellers. We are just starting to get our books in e-book and audio formats.

We have been working with Abet Publishing for that. They also publish photos and music. Self-publishing isn't easy if you want to sell lots of books.

You are responsible for all of your own distribution and advertising. We've had booths at fairs, but have the largest sales in bookstores and tourist type shops that will take our books on consignment or by direct sales. We still try the traditional publisher route, but as yet remain "undiscovered.
