I don't think anything has changed. The biggest difference now is communication and media. We don't have more disasters, were just more aware of them.
I think if you look back at history you will find periods of time where a lot of natural disasters happened in a short span of time; volcanos, earthquakes and the ensuing tidal waves. I don't think they are increasing as a whole. Who knows what will be next?
The radiation situation in Japan concerns me--who knows what that will bring with the leak into the ocean. That particular disaster may end up being unprecedented as the effects make their way to our coast.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
