A lab is a great choice in theory for a 10 year old. Just make sure that they are well supervised together as he may still be in a chewing stage and little boys fingers are a good a chew toy as any to a puppy. I think also it should be considered that as this is for your nephew, and we can maybe assume that you won't be the one living with it, paying for it, feeding it, training it that his parents will need to find a dog that fits their family, needs and interests.
A Labrador is a good all rounder though I would say - but I hope you have discussed the dog with his household first and not going to "surprise" them with this life changing gift.
Do not buy any dog at all until you have thoroughly discussed this with your sister. She will be the one to be responsible for the dog. A 10 yr old cannot be fully responsible and is not going to be around enough for the next 10 yrs to commit to a dog.
Never buy a dog as a gift or at least a surprise gift. You are possibly burdening the whole family with a lot of expense, commitement, time, and everything else involved with owning a dog.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
