I recently got a 7 month old golden retriever, I need some help I liv on a busy road and cant take her out to potty, I wanna teach her to go potty in the bathroom or use a kid's 'training potty'. The previous owner used to take her on walks twice a day n she is used to going potty outside. I love her a lot and I m looking after all her needs, exercise n everything else but I don't want her to get hurt on the road as she is too jumpy and she pulls me hard or makes me trip and fall everytime I try to hold her back from running right into the middle of the road or jumping on the passerbys, so I want to avoid taking her out until she settles down with me and becomes obedient.
Can any body giv me any tips plz. Asked by syd-b 42 months ago Similar questions: recently month golden retriever help Pets > Dogs.

Well.. Your dog is never going to calm down if she doesn't get walks. Not to mention the fact that "puppy energy" can last years. She will just get stir crazy inside, and will never learn to respect you as her leader if you don't walk her.
If you are concerned she will get away from you, definitely go to obedience classes with her so that the both of you can learn to walk on a leash. It might be best to do private lessons specifically focused on leash training, then do group classes for other stuff. You could also get a Gentle Leader harness.
We got one for our own dog and it works wonders. It was amazing... we put it on him in the pet store to try it out and all of a sudden it was like he knew how to walk on a leash. I think the type that fits the dog's head is best, but we have the type that goes around his chest because his nose is too short for the other kind.
You can try them out in the store and see which works best. We even returned the nose version once we found out it kept riding up into our dog's eyes (again, really short nose). This was the best money we ever spent on stuff for our dog.
If you are dead set on training your dog to go inside (which is a very bad idea because it will be nearly impossibly to un-train her) you could get a dog litter pan. I am not sure they make them big enough for a golden retriever though. I would approach it as a reverse of the paper-training method sometimes used to house break puppies.
Put the pan outside, and then gradually move it inside once the dog is accustomed to using it. I would think there would be someplace out back that was large enough to take her just to go potty. She obviously would need to be on a leash. I personally have never heard of training a dog to go on a real toilet.
The first thing I would do would be to take her to an obedience class. Golden Retrievers are beautiful and I love them, but they can be a handful. I would not have suggested having one unless you have a yard or someplace for her to run, but it is too late for that.
She needs to learn basic training: sit, stay, heel and most importantly "come"! That is imperative with any dog, especially a large pup like that. You say she is getting exercise.
Do you take her to a dog park? Where is she getting her exercise? You say that the previous owner used to walk her and she went potty then.
Is there a place where you can take her to walk her? I am really curious how she is getting exercise. Without training and socialization with people and other dogs, she may always be uncontrollable.
If you are not able to provide these things for her, I think you should think about finding another home for her. You seem to have an awful lot of trouble holding onto her and it sounds like she is too much for you to handle. At least until she is trained! She desperately needs training and exercise.
Doggie Day care would be wonderful for her. Have you looked into that? I hope that I am interpreting this wrong and that she is getting exercise and training.
If so, you need to find a place for her to go potty at the house, but not inside. There must be even a patch of ground in back of the house. If you have to drive her somewhere to go potty, I would not let her start going inside.
Once she is trained it should not be a problem and you do not want her to always do that.It is just not normal. Please read Cesar Millan's training books and/or watch him on National Geographic channel each day ("The Dog Whisperer". He has great training techniques on how to be the leader and not let your dog lead you instead.
Best of luck, but please find a class or preferably a personal trainer for her immediately :-) I hope things work out for both of you :-) Doglover928's Recommendations GOLDEN RETRIEVER DVD! + Dog & Puppy Training Bonus Amazon List Price: $24.99 Dogs Golden Retriever - Golden Retriever - Mouse Pads Amazon List Price: $13.99 Golden Retreiver Puppies Garden Art Flag Banner Amazon List Price: $19.99 Why Goldens Do That: A Collection Of Curious Golden Retriever Behaviors Amazon List Price: $15.95 Used from: $9.55 Average Customer Rating: 4.5 out of 5 (based on 6 reviews) Cesar's Way Dog Whisperer With Cesar Millan - The Complete First Season Amazon List Price: $39.98 Used from: $29.97 Average Customer Rating: 4.5 out of 5 (based on 114 reviews) Video Video of Cesar Millan "The Dog Whisperer" .
You have to train her to walk nicely on a leash. I don't know how she could be getting enough exercise if you never take her for walks. You need to take the leadership role.
She needs discipline as well as exercise. There's a head halter called a "gentle leader" that might help you get control of the walks. When the dog pulls, you tug her head to the side.It doesn't hurt, but gets her attention.
If you avoid taking her out, the problem will just get worse, as she gets more frustrated. Loving her a lot is not enough. You could also drive her to a park to practice good leash manners until you can handle her on the busy road.

2 Please, please, please learn to walk the dog on a leash. The idea of going to a park is a great one. Teach the dog leash etiquette at the park, then apply it at home.
Also, training classes may be the way to go for you. Is this the first dog you have had? Or at least the first large dog?

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
