My recommendation I just got a GPS, after reading about them here! And I love it! We got it one day, and left the next for a 4 day trip to the far, far north of the upper peninsula of Michigan.

I can't say enough good things about this device! It made the travel fun, safer, informative, and more interesting! We have the Garmin 550c, and got it through Amazon.

The link I'm including initially lists it at over $800, but you can get it for much less--the real price there is $341.99. There was nothing else to buy, unless you chose to also use it as an MP3 player and then you would need a memory card for that. You can also use it as a speaker phone if your cell phone is bluetooth enabled.

This device plots a course for you, recalculates it if you go off course, tell you how fast you are driving, when you will arrive at your destination, tells you all the "side" things--attractions, gas stations, shopping, entertainment, hotels, and so much more. Even for the smallest towns up in the UP! You can also have it just on the map setting, where it will tell you each street as you cross it.It easily installs by attaching with a suction cup to your front window, and plugs into the cigarette lighter.

My husband, someone who's not fond of computers or electronics, really liked having it, too. It's easy to use, and I do think I will probably get one for my parents for Christmas. I hope this helps!

I love my Nuvi 350 - Very user-friendly I recently bought my first GPS unit and went with the Garmin Nuvi 350. It works well, navigates accurately, doesn’t set you back as much as some of the others, and (above all) is very easy to use. When I was researching, I found that some people liked larger displays.

This unit can be either on the dash or hand-held (if you’re walking around, for example) and works well either way. There are other units with a larger display, however. The 350 display is only 3" x 2.25" but it is bright in daylight and automatically dims when it turns dark (the unit knows when sundown is and automatically dims).

For me, it is large enough. I can see the maps very well and the advantage to the small unit (about the size of a deck of cards) is that it is highly portable. It comes with everything you need (car charger, usb connector, etc.).

The voice directions are plenty loud and clear and you have your choice of a few voices that are included. You can read a lot of specific reviews on Amazon if you are interested, but it works for and cost under $400, so the price was good (relatively speaking). They carry these at Wal-mart and most other big box retailers (Target, Best Buy, etc. ), so it is always worth checking out the units in person when looking around.

The 350 comes with U.S.And Canada maps preloaded and is ready to go out of the box. One recommendation I would make if you decide to buy it is not to use the suction cup that comes with it (to attach the unit to the windshield). I bought the "sandbag" unit that can sit on the dash and not move (and is completely portable).

It works great, is completely portable, and makes it easy to remove the unit from the vehicle when parked without leaving any signs of it. Apparently, thieves like GPS units, so it’s best to take them with you when you’re not in your car. I’ll never get lost again!.

Garmin I have owned 3 Garmin GPS (the last one being the Garmin Streetpilot III). I just recently purchased the Tom Tom One XL to replace the Streetpilot. Having had time to compare the two, I think I should have stayed with Garmin.

I read the reviews and everyone was saying how great the Tom Tom maps are, compared to garmin’s...well, not in my experience. I am constantly driving by roads that don’t exist on the 5-year NEWER Tom Tom maps that *do* show on the 5-year OLDER Garmin maps. Plus, the Tom Tom *faster* routes take me totally out of the way (It will send me in the opposite direction with 3 rights to take, vs just sending me in the correct direction to start).

The Garmin sent me exactly the way that makes sense (point A to B vs. Tom Toms point A to a1 to a2 to a3 to B)! The Garmin Streetpilot III cost me $600 5 years ago...the Tom Tom One XL cost me $400, this year. I love the feel and weight to the Tom Tom and it has stuck to my windshield for 6 months with no sign of loosening or falling off.

The Garmin was glued to my dashboard (it never once budged in my GMC Jimmy or Dodge Ram, but I had to replace the sticker 3x in my Ford Escort). I will go back to Garmin on my next buy. Sources: My own experience and views .

I have a great experience with TomTom Go 510 My TomTom Go 510 GPS device is very easy to use and to program. The device has very accurate maps – at least in the areas where I drive. It has a Bluetooth support so you can hook your phone to it and talk when you drive, and it has pretty good stats to show as you drive like how much time and the distance left to the next turn and to the overall trip.It recalculates the best routs very fast when you decide to take a different route then the one the device suggests.

It has excellent reception and rarely doe it fails to receive a clear signal. If it looses a signal for whatever reason, like driving in a tunnel, it regains it back very quickly once the signal is available again. I drove with it many times in New York city with no signal reception problems at all – as I have heard many times that abundance of the skyscrapers there may interfere in GPS reception.

It is very customizable, like displaying a keyboard that is QWERTY based or ABCDE based. Overall, I’m very happy with it I had before the Garmin StreetPilot (C330?) but returned it after about two weeks. Despite the many good reviews I read about it.

I didn’t like it at all. For example, it’s instruction weren’t clear enough when driving in the very confusing highways of New Jersey and once you have made a mistake it would take up to almost a whole minute to recalculate a new route. I bought to my wife Magellan 3050 and it is pretty good but not as good as the TomTom.

For example the fastest routes it suggests are not as good – and sometimes it would make weird route choices that are not fast at all (how should I explain it –if the shortest why to get from A to B is a straight line, it would insist in traveling through point C on the way.) It also does not have maps that are as updated. It has one cool feature missing from my device, if you drive in a place when there is no GPS reception, it would automatically switch to textual description of the routes automatically. In my device I have to do it manually and not in one keystroke as well.

I have a Garmin StreetPilot C340, paid about $300 for it, and LOVE IT! I am directionally challenged, and this GPS is fabulous! It is easy to use, stores tons of recent locations, and is rarely off in its directions.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
