I am waking up at 4:00 am most mornings. What can I do? What works?

I wake up most mornings around 4:00am after only about 5.5 hours sleep. It takes me several hours to get back to sleep. I am taking 1mg of melatonin and 1/3 Ambian CR 12mg.Is the Ambien causing this?

The Ambien isn't causing it This a typical kind of insomnia and I've suffered from it many times. Ambien isn't the cause, but you may want to take a larger dose to keep you sleeping through the night. I've found that melatonin is absolutely useless.

Valerian helps, though. This can be caused by any number of things, including diet, stress, or external causes (i.e. Your neighbor gets home at that time every night and slams the door), an uncomfortable mattress, etc.The worst thing is when you expect it to happen, so you wake up at 4 a.m.

And think, "Oh, no, it's happening again! " and that keeps you awake. People have really varied advice on how to deal with this, and I've found that most of it isn't useful.

For me, I just "outgrow" this problem after a few weeks. One thing I've tried which really helps me is to have an electric fan in my room. I just leave it running all night but not blowing on me.

The rhythmic sound it makes helps me. And if I wake up, I try meditating by listening very closely to the sound it makes and trying to block out all other thoughts. This does put me to sleep sometimes.

I'd suggest seeing a sleep specialist if this continues for very long. You may have a sleep disorder, like Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome, which is what I have. Or you may just be stressed out, or drinking too much caffeine, or are suffering from something that will simply pass.

Whatever it is, sleeping is serious business and you should talk to a doctor. Hope this helps! Sources: My experience .

A potty run I also wake up during the night, usually just around 3:30AM, just a bathroom visit. I just turn on the TV and get bored right back to sleep. I don't restrict my liquid intake in the evening, because getting up is not a problem.

Some folks have to stop drinking after supper so they can sleep through the night.

A sleep study might help Ask your doctor to recommend a sleep specialist who can arrange for you to spend the night in a sleep lab hooked to an electroencephalogram, EKG, etc. To see what is causing this with actual data. If this is a long-standing problem you should actually try to solve it. Sources: 38 years as an MD .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
