This does not sound right, most sites ask that you provide your old password, just to prove your ID, and only when you have confirmed your ID, then are you allowed to change to a new password.

And if you had your old password, then you should have been able to access your account when you tried the first time. Are you sure your accessing the site correctly, maybe your a victim of a virus/malware, etc. And your not really visiting the site you think you are. I would recommend updating your Anti-virus/malware software protection and run a full scan of your machine.
