Hmm... just for a change, this question sounds genuine. And, looking into your avatar, I see you are a Brit - well, so am I, and proud also to be British! You read as a very straightforward and honest individual.
Hmm... I see you like the 'high powered' music stuff - Indie Rock, Metal, Rock-Punk, Emo - ever heard of 'the spirit behind the music'? Don't ever think music isn't spiritual, because if it weren't, why should people rave about it so and base their whole lives on it, and why should it be so intrinsic to church worship? Yes, music can express many very deep things, beyond what words can say.
But it is also well-known, in Christian circles, that Metal, Punk and Emo (don't know about Indie) are - let us say - not the most 'faith-enhancing' types of music there is. In fact, I would say, these are the types of music that are more of 'the world' than of the place where God is and, over time, their effect would be to turn you away from faith, not towards it. They are not neutral, they speak of basic, carnal things, and also introspective, negative things.
It seems to me that you have been very busy, cultivating your mind and your qualifications (for which, all praise to you!), but I suspect rather at the expense of your spiritual life. Now, what has happened is that you have a great, big 'soulish' side (that is, the 'me' or 'self' side) at the expense of the 'spiritual' side which you have just noticed has become somewhat 'shrivelled'. No doubt you are hearing it, as it were, 'crying out' to you now!
And you say - interestingly - that you feel empty inside, like all alone. Yes, perceptive. What has happened is that you have, in fact, transferred your attentions to 'cultivating your own garden' as it were, and you have neglected 'the garden of God'.
Therefore, God is now somewhat removed from you. He has not moved, you have. Here is the old saying which I have always found most helpful in such times as these: 'Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you'.
Draw near. Now, you know how to 'draw near' to studies and obtaining qualifications as far as this world is concerned, and how to keep occupied and 'do' things - which youth is always so very good at, as if 'doing' was everything - but do you know how to draw near to God? Not so much 'doing' as 'being'.
Because that's an entirely different thing. You can't just 'wind the handle' and out it comes! But, do not be discouraged, because what I find you have got right is that simple statement 'I still want God'.
Yes, it is when you change your mind on that, that you find yourself in trouble! You see, since you first (hopefully you are born again) 'received Christ' (and there comes a time - a crisis - not that you have 'been for ever'), things have moved on. You have grown up now, and God has moved on, too, and he is wanting to deal with you as a grown-up man, not as a little boy, or a youth anymore.
That basically means that before you were somewhat innocent as to the hurtful, harmful and distressing things of this world, and the nature of all things, but now you have met with them and, not having continued walking with God, you haven't had your knowledge of God, his ways, his answers, to comfort and strengthen you. So, they have taken an inordinate 'bite' out of you. Yes, because you don't really understand, as you might have done, what is happening here.
Spiritual knowledge - as opposed to natural knowledge - tells us things about the world, about deaths of grandads thro' distressing diseases, about the stuff that's on tv and how godless it is, and we are strengthened because we can then put it into perspective. That means, basically, that we have 'the mind of God' and we see the reasons behind it. Though we can still grieve, nevertheless it really helps to take the sting out of many things.
I must end now. I have tried to address your points, but Yahoo only gives me so much space. But I will finish by saying that, if you really want to continue with real hope - in a world which takes away our hope - you need to rediscover freshly what true, biblical faith is, for a man, not a boy.
Go to 'the fountainhead', go to God, and draw from there. It's hard, but you will find that, as soon as you cry out to him, he will be there. Don't go by 'feelings' - he WILL be there.
Take your first steps of faltering faith.
At the very least there are 7 billion other humans like you here and I assume you like the rest of us have a network of family and friends, so you're not alone. I wonder if Y! A is the best place to ask for reassurance in religious matters, given that it's full of us atheists and whatnot.
Perhaps the best advice I can give you is to give it all some time, let it rest. It's not something you need a snap decision on.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
