You are probably looking for the issue that Eisenhower was somewhat liberal for his day and comparing it to the current conservative republicans. However, you fail to consider that the country today is grossly liberal compared to the country at the time of Eisenhower. He would be aghast at the problems that the current democrats and establishment republicans have created saying that this is exactly what he warned about.
Today, Eisenhower would be conservative, both domestic and foreign, and anti-liberal democrat with its big government regulations and anti-establishment republicans with it alliance with the democrats. Government control by lobbyists. So would Truman.
Remember that Eisenhower was the Supreme Commander, so there was no candidate of his equivalency. The closest you can get to Eisenhower today would be Trump and Cruz, supporting the same values as did Eisenhower.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
