You probably need a Wireless-G router. I would need to know how old your desktop computer is, and what operating system it is running, before I could recommend something specific. If you need a wireless router, you also need a wireless network interface card (NIC) for your desktop PC.

Wireless routers use either the 802.11g (Wireless-G) or 802.11n (Wireless-N) protocol. Wireless-N is newer; it has greater throughput, and is less susceptible to interference from other devices.
