They're attracted to food Racoons go where food is, and they have pretty good sniffers. Do you have a barbecue grille on your deck? They may be attracted to the grease smell from that, especially if it's a gas grille.
Also, if you keep a trash can on your deck (like I do), take it inside the garage when you don't need it. Never leave food out on your patio furniture, likewise anything that catches water. They like to drink, too.My neighbors next door had a racoon problem, which they solved by hiring a trapper.
Once the rascal was caught, it was supposed to have been taken to the wild and released. I don't think they really cared what happened to it, though. It could be worse. The guy around the corner from me is playing host to a skunk.

Two things to do. ONE: Eliminate the attractant. TWO: If you can't get rid of what draws them, or that doesn't help, get and set a humane trap (a good-sized cage trap), catch them, take them to a wooded area at least several miles away, and release them.
You can also get a wild-animal specialist to do this, but it'll cost you per animal trapped. If you do it yourself, you only buy the trap once.My folks had this issue--they caught and released 8 raccoons before they were through--many were half-grown kits. Sources: Personal experience .
HavAHart Traps will do the trick. I once had chickens and a 'coon was eating them on the installment plan. Trying to shoot him at night was a losing proposition.
I bought a HavaHart live trap and caught ELEVEN 'coons in two weeks. I drove them far away (15 - 20 miles if you don't want to see them back again) and released them in an uninhabited area. Problem solved, at least for some period of time.
The trap might cost about $35 - 40. For bait, use marshmallows - they love them. Tractor Supply has them, so do many hardware stores.
I just had this problem. Actually, the mother gave birth to her five cubes under my deck. And I am selling my house.
And I have a little pond in my back yard, which they loooooove. So, they don't like noise and light. So we put some lights on the deck all night and a radio under the deck (the deck is only a few inches above the ground, so a person can't crawl under.) I put boards around all of the edges of the deck except one place for them to go out.
I put moth balls under the deck inside the boards, as they are supposed to not like the smell. So they moved out, to staying under my neighbors front porch. And kept coming into my yard and eating my fish.
So I bought a catch-alive trap. Put cat food in it and caught a couple of cats. Put watermelon in it and caught a couple opposums.
Put nothing in it and caught one of the cubs (I think it was frightened by the neighbors coming home late at night, and ran into the trap). I had checked with the wildlife folks, and they said a cub this size could fend for itself. So I relocated the cub to a lake several miles from my house. I then left the trap in the yard as a scarecrow.
Raccoons are smart, so they all moved away. The fish are all happy now. Sources: Personnal experience.
Make it less attractive There must be something on the deck that makes it a nice place for them. Pet food, maybe? Anyway, after removing the pet food, if any, I would put out some mothballs or a moth cake for a few nights to see if that didn’t discourage the group.
Good luck! .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
