I miss my friend, PenguinSage! askville.amazon.com/view/ViewUserProfile... knew she'd been quiet for a while, but I didn't realize she'd left for good. Her bulletin board explains it, and I can't say I don't agree with her.
I will add hers to my list of the voices I miss most here, along with Waterbearer, Mamasu and Rickisgirl. The really sad part is that Askville Management could have prevented this. They have done NOTHING to retain members.
Are they ever going to wake up, and restore some dignity and quality to this site? See? There WAS a question in there, somewhere.

Poppet! Said: 4 No, I didn't realize that she was gone for good, either. How sad.
Her humor and spirit helped shape Askville, and will be missed. Some other site will reap the benefits that we let slip through our fingers (through no fault of our own, though! )Yes, it doesn't seem that it would be that hard to working on retaining our good members, but there just doesn't seem to be any interest in that by the management.
I know that you, Goldie, and I, and many others have felt sort of driven away from the site; it's no longer as fun and as interesting as it used to be. It was "special" here--the Golden Age of Askville--when intelligence and good/great answers were the rule, not the exception. Levels meant something, and people fought over the opportunity to answer a good question.
Oh, there were grumbles and complaints, but most of them were attempts to improve the place. Well, PS, if you read this--goodbye! Keep in touch with us occasionally!

Poppet! Said: 5 I wonder why you guys can't read her bulletin board? Here it is:Bulletin Board: After two glorious years of happy Askvilling, I am substantially stepping away.
Reasons: 1. Questville Cancellation - this removes all true incentive and fun from the site. 2.
Bonus Questions - the "false gold" created by these skews all records of gold earnings, permanently compromising the integrity of this site. With gold and experience rendered meaningless, I have no regard for this site. To my friends, I will miss your regular company.

" "What does it mean to be an "Askville Friend?" What responsibilities go with it? What are you supposed to do?
" "If you were describing askville to a friend who had never been here, what would you say?" "Would anyone like to be my askville friend? " "Is Askville as much fun when your best friend is away? I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
