There are multiple medical specialties; one of which is neurology. See a neurosurgeon regarding your numbness, ASAP. Just because he/she is also a surgeon is no indication that you might require surgery; the benefit is…nobody knows more about the nervous system than this specialty so, see one now.

Sounds as if you have a nerve you're ending up on so you need to tell yourself before you go to sleep (programming your mind) to not sleep on that side.

I agree with skep, you need to see a doctor soon. I would suggest a neurologist, rather than a neurosurgeon, but both are specialists in neurological problems. You should likely start with your PCP or internist.

Let him/her do a basic work-up, and then make a referral to an appropriate specialist. Many specialists will not see a new patient without a referral from another physician, although some will. The bottom line is that you do get this checked out, sooner rather than later.
