I want to donate my body to forensic science. How do I find out how? Saw TV show about fields for dead body study. In these fields forensic scientists can study different stages of decay, invasion of insects, etc. To learn more about "found" bodies.

I saw this on Forensic Files but they didn't indicate how one goes about it. I'd like to put this in my will but want to leave detailed instructions. Any suggestions would be appreciated.Thanks.

The Body Farm Besides being a novel by Patricia Cromwell, the Body Farm is a research facility where human decomposition after death can be scientifically studied in a variety of settings. The aim is to gain a better understanding of the decomposition process, permitting the development of techniques for extracting information (such as the timing and circumstances of death) from human remains. There are currently (March 2008) two such facilities operating in the United States, with a third due to open shortly. They plan to have the body farm operational by the late Spring 2008, and will be part of the Forensic Anthropology Center at Texas State (F.A.C.T.S. ). I would contact these facilities and ask how you might donate your body upon your death to their facility. I think it is also very important that you make your wishes known to your loved ones and even put in a will.

The U of T Forensic Anthropology Facility have a faq on donating bodies on their web page. The link is below. It does say that you can also donate organs to other groups if you donate your body to them.

If you live in TN and within 200 miles of the facility there is no fee associated with donating your body however if you live further away it will be your families responsible to transport your remains to them. That is something to consider. You may wish to explore approximately what the cost would be and definitely pick the closer location.

Thanks...but what a shock to get your answer. I asked this question almost 2 1/2 years ago. Lol Ikwenini 14 months ago .

Found out some more info. You must find a local medical schoolor university in ordere to register your donation, obviously there will be oodles of papers to fill in, there is also a phone number that will give help845 6060400. I shall follow this up next week because I don't believe in paying for a funeral (or rather my children) when if whats left of this old carcass can be of a little more use what greater gift is there than to extend someones life for them.

If you find anything more perhaps you would let me know and I will do the same. Mrsmatsa .

Me again missed the 0 off thre phone number should read 0845 6060400mrsmatsa .

1 As an aside - if it doesn't mention it in the information provided in the link, you'll need to make your family aware of your wishes and have it put in your will.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
