I want to scan many documents, store and organize them into my computer. What hardware and software do I need? This is for a home office.
I have a few possible solutions already: (1) PC, (2) Scanner, (3) software that organizes digital documents, (4) ocr software, (5) pdf converter software. Do I need all of this software? Does any of this software come together in one package?
Which software do you recommend? Asked by newuser8898632 45 months ago Similar questions: scan documents store organize computer hardware software Computers > Software.

It depends It mostly depends on how much money you want to spend. I have two document scanners in my home office: 1. A Canon ImageRunner 2016i which is an all purpose networked digital copier, printer, scanner, fax machine. It does everything but get up in the morning and make coffee and it came with all the software including the complete Adobe package for scanning to PDF files.
I use it to scan large documents (25 to 100 pages although it will do much bigger ones) to PDF files for storage and also as my primary laser printer, copier and fax. It also came to 3500 bucks with the options I added. But it wiped out my storage expenses (space, boxes, folders, paper, etc. ) so it’s paying for itself over time.
If you need a copier, printer, fax and scanner and store large amounts of paper it’s the way to go. The 2016i is out of production but the 2018i is similar and available. This is serious hardware and you'd normally buy it from a Canon authorized dealer and customize it to your requirements.
There are lots of options depending on what you need.2. A Fujitsi ScanSnap S500. This is a small document scanner (also does a nice job on photographs) that is tiny, very fast and easy to use.
I keep it on the desk for quick jobs (1 to 20 pages or so) that I want to attach as PDF files to emails. It also came with a full software suite for scanning documents and photos. The 500 is out of production now but the s510 is still available. It sells for around 400 bucks. As far as other stuff goes you need a good PC, obviously, with lots of hard drive space for storage.
I also use a big (500GB) external hard drive to back up my stored documents. I wouldn't worry about software until you decide on hardware. Most scanners come with all you'll need.
I never had any luck with OCR software so I can't speak to that, although both the Canon and the Fujitsu came with it. 1 No mention of backup software or RAID. Once you do the work the data will be valuable. Hard drives fail.
What then? .

2 I would want all the software you list. But I never could sell OCR in my library.

7 I replied to VB Daisey by PM but for the rest: The Canon 2016i (now the 2018i) are multifunction machines, not just copiers. I use mine for copying but also for scanning documents for electronic storage so I can toss the paper, sending and receiving faxes and as a laser printer. I have it plugged into my router and "shared" so it will print from any computer on the network and the scans go right to Adobe Acrobat as PDF files.
Very handy machine if you want to spend the big bucks.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
