" One does not keeprank, but awards and credentials should stay with honorable status. Many benefits are not extended to a erson who was "dishonorable." I know of no penalty with an honorable status.
When you're discharged, you lose your rank, because you're not in the military any more. You get to keep your awards. Even a dishonorable discharge does not revoke your awards, unless they're stripped of you by a court martial.
The Marines do have the option of recalling you, under certain circumstances. Some people are not really discharged, but go into the Individual Ready Reserve. They retain their rank, because they're still in the military.
Occasionally the Marines will ask somebody to come back after discharge, or people will want to re-volunteer. Technically they're starting over, but generally they can be re-hired at their old rank. As for their certifications, those generally fade over time anyway.
Once the time has passed, you lose your certification unless you re-test.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
