If someone puts your name as a reference to either borrow money or get any form of credit and then defaults, does that affect your credit?

If she didn't have your social and you aren't listed as a co-signer, then you are safe and it won't hurt your credit in the least bit. Collection agencies break rules. They will call people's children and threaten the kids with sending their parents to jail.

They'll call anyone they can and try many different angles to collect. You and your credit should be safe. I hope you keep up with your credit reports.

Each of the "BIG 3" agencies gives one freebie credit report per year. You can order them all at once with the "Annual Credit Report Request Form" which is free. The form is available at ftc.gov/credit and www.annualcreditreport.com.

You will get all three through this form (Equifax, TransUnion, Experian). The form is simple. You just need your basic personal info.

The last item, you need to check the boxes for Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax. I got this information from my "Debt Cures" book which was very helpful. HTH!

Thanks, Jennifer.

This happened to me as well. A reference is only used as a way to get in touch with a customer that has defaulted on their loan and refuses to contact them. It will not affect your credit at all and you obviously have the right to give them no information about whomever used you as a reference.

No, nothing can happen because an old friend of me and my bf did the same and I thought about the same thing as well. Since we were only REFERENCE for god knows what, she was trying to use us as witness of some sort. But the bank told us that we have nothing to worry about because if her credit was wacked we won't be damage since we don't share credits with her in anyway. So your safe :).

No , This will not hurt your Credit, Just makes them look bad, You can't control what other people do. Don't worry about it any more.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
