Without a doubt... 6" superfluke in watermelon seed by Zoom. You can fish it Texas rigged, Carolina rigged, or even just by itself if finesse is crucial on spooky fish. It handles with enough action for open water and it's weedless so you can throw it in the junk.

I never go anywhere without at least two bags of these guys. Because of the way it swims it's particularly good in a current. No matter what water you're on there are feeder fish about this size and color.

This is a must have. Another lure I always have in the box is a Colorado blade Terminator brand spinner bait with a white skirt. Cast it, jig it, fish it on the drop, fish it on the lift... you name it and this sucker will catch some fish.My favorite crank bait is from Berkely: the Frenzy in pearl.

It used to come in a black and white that I liked even better but alas, the sun has set on that model. Definitely some sort of live bait... I would definitely pick a live bait like minnows, nightcrawlers, etc...just because through my life I have always had more success catching fish with live bait. If we are talking largemouth bass...which are definitely fun to catch...not so fun to eat. I would choose live frogs.

Why? Just because it is really an exciting way to catch largemouth. I used to do a lot of fishing in northern Minnesota and a bait shop there had live frogs...they were so cool for largemoth bass as you would cast the frog into lily pads or just let it swim along the top of the water and then *BAM* a big largemouth would nail the frog or sometimes the bass would jump out of the water when striking the frog.It was not always particularly effective as it seemed the bass would miss more times than not but it sure was exciting.

Sorry I can't help you with an artificial lure choice.

Plastic worm... The crankbait is certainly a good choice because of its versatility but I think the worm is just a little more versatile. I have caught a lot of good fish in all kinds of weather, conditions, and water clarity. I have caught them in all four seasons, as well.

A crankbait, like spinnerbaits, is more confined to colors and characteristics than worms. If I could only have one, it would have to be the 7 1/2" Culprit black/firetail. Or a tomato.......or a bubblegum..........or a grape/firetail...........or a crawdad.............or a (well, you get the point!) It would be a topwater lure... While there is a time and place for almost any lure, at any time, I would have to stick to a sentimental favorite. I've been fishing for 30 years in freshwater bodies in New England. Largemouth are what I aim for in generally clear, cool and shallow waters.

With that said, I have to pick a topwater lure as my "one time" lure. I cant speak enough about how I love the strike of a topwater, the water foaming around the lure as the bass attacks from below or behind. So, having to pick one brand... Tough one as I love the Zara Spook and its "walk the dog" technique.

The classic Hula Popper with its large mouth. I guess I have to pick though, the Rebel Pop R as my one-time lure. Casting that lure on a glassy surface, right at dusk toward the shore.

Let the ripple subside, twitch the rod and hang on. Or, if the suface is choppy, pop it along at a brisk clip, letting the mouth "gurgle" the water and get a "walk the dog" thing happening. Color?

Thats tough as I really like three (Ol' Bass, Fire Tiger and Silver/Blue), but following the rules of the asker, I will pick Ol' Bass. As I mentioned, the waters around me are generally clear and the natural color shines nicely. Anxious to see what others pick... A purple worm. They love that purple worm and will hit it if you know how to work the bait. You have to know how to work a purple worm, but it seems to be the best "bait" to use for largemouth bass.

They’ll sometimes hit lures and you can spend lots of money on those things, but we do a lot of largemouth bass fishing and the purple worm is the real winner. You have to make sure that the hook is hidden within the worm so it doesn’t show and then you pull the pole from in front to the side and then wind up the slack as you move the end of the pole back to the front. If you feel a hit, stop for a minute and let the bass chew on it a minute until you think he’s got the worm in his mouth enough so that he has the hook inside his mouth, and then yank to set the hook.My son caught a 12-1/2 lbs.

Large mouth bass this way and we had it mounted for him.
