If you had to choose between losing a toe and losing your internet connection, which would you choose?

Holy Toledo, that question and picture take ConundrumLand to a whole new level. Take my internet, leave my toes! I need all of my toes, I use them all every single day, and I would gladly beg on a street corner before I would give up any of them!

I have to tell you, this is the best question and picture you have ever posted. My brand new son-in law had extra fingers on each had when he was born, and they cut them off. His mother preserved them in his baby book, and he still shows them to anyone who will look. It's a good thing I have a strange fascination for the bizarre, or I'm not sure what I would have thought of his digital collection, pressed between pages like prom flowers!

This is how I want my feet to look, OK?

Yes, I agree, great question! I had to actually think for a few moments, which is sad. I work from home on the internet, and if I did not have the internet I would not have a job.

If I did not have a job, I would not be able to help my family financially and soon enough we would lose our home and not be able to pay bills. So although I would never want any toes cut off just from using the internet socially, I would have to lose toes rather than lose our shelter, gas, heat and water. I have actually thought about how much I rely on the internet and if for some reason the internet collapsed and there was NO MORE internet.

I would have to try to find a new job, problem is, it is SO very hard to get a job in my town. Men with degrees and work experience in different fields can not get jobs, so they are going to Subway, or fast food. They are over qualified and are just working anywhere to bring in money.

That leaves the 16, 17, 18 year old with NO jobs, or far and few in between. I guess I should just be thankful there IS the internet! PS I really enjoy having all my toes!

Are you kidding take the internet. I only really use it for research and sending info' back and forth. I have done it the old way for years and it would be nothing to do it that way again. To actually give up a body part for this is ridiculous.

Even if you make a living on the internet ask yourself this. If before the internet you applied for a job and the person told you to work here I have to have you remove a toe-would you have done it? So why would you do it now?

Been there In real life myself. As a diabetic I had to face a very similar situation. But it was with a leg not just a toe and it was complete phone service, since my Internet and phone were connected. So my situation was loose a leg or my internet/phone.

In 2000 I developed what we all thought was just an infected hair follicle on my leg, where I shave my legs. It turned into a severe abscess. And I had a choice, either pay my Internet/phone bill or loose an entire leg.

I needed that amount for fuel and parking to get to the hospital. Guess what, I chose my leg. I can get a phone line from the government, use the library for Internet, get a free cell phone from the government etc. But I just can’t get another leg.

It is not so much comfort and convenience, as in Internet. But rather health or diversion. Think of it this way, if your toe was say infected, gangrenous ball of pus that needed removal or internet, the choice would be obvious wouldn’t it?

You life or not.

Neat question! Take my big right toe please as it now has the RA crap it that limits movement. The pain is there and nothing I have controls it, so it would be awesome to loose it.

Also easy to answer for me and it’s not because I am addicted to the Internet either… lol I use the Internet to make my living and to pay for my house, the bills and put foot on the table. My toe does nothing but cause pain. I typically am on the internet at least 10 or more hours a day just to write enough to survive; I so wish I had time to do the fun things other people do on here.

However, when I do anything here it usually is research or taking a mini break by playing a quick game. This image is funny.

Take my toe and leave my Internet alone! I can’t and won’t go without my Internet. The Internet has become more important to me than my toe will ever be.

I use it for enjoyment and more importantly, I use it for my income. If I don’t have Internet, I lose money. I have become very dependent of the Internet and my computer.

I have a desk top, a laptop and now an iPad just to make sure, that if one of them breaks, fine I’ll use one of the other ones. You won’t stop me! I was having problems the other day with the Internet and I was getting very frustrated.

I was on the phone over an hour with Comcast trying to figure out the reason why my Internet was out. Bottom line was that we figured it was my modem and they scheduled an appointment for the repairman to come out- in 2 days! I scheduled it, then sat in my chair for about 2 minutes and called them back.

I ended up finding out that I could unhook everything, take the modem down to my local office and trade it for another one. I did that because I knew darn well that I could not live without my Internet for two whole days! Yeah, I’m addicted!

I have to agree with you that most of us, (and not just the teen population) have become very dependent upon a functional internet connection along with other technological devices that allow us to complete our everyday transactions. Personally, I could not imagine after close to 15 years of Internet usage to ever be permanently disconnected from it again. However, would I go so far as to sacrifice any particular limb or body part for the sake of a technological advantage?

No, I would not. First, I am way too scared not only of the physical deformities but also of any potential associated pain (even phantom pain) and discomfort that could result from dismemberment. Compromising my anatomy or health is certainly not on my priority list in order to retain a working internet connection.

Second, making such a decision would really cause me to wonder about the rank of importance we assign to materialistic things versus the parts of our very being that make us who we are and help us exist daily in only the most beneficial of ways. Having a complete set of toes allows for perfect balance when walking and the tiniest deviation from a typical anatomy renders the body that much less competent and physically appealing. So in short, no, losing a toe would certainly not be a good alternative for being able to keep my internet connection.

I would just have to find a different way for work and entertainment.

Eh, I don't need all 10 of my toes! Take the little one on my left foot. Like Gina and Amy, I am financially dependent on the Internet.

I suppose we could take a loss on our house and move if the Net ever collapsed, but realistically, where would we get jobs? Just as Gina says of her community, ours is saturated as well with people like me who have college degrees and professional certificates, and cannot get jobs in our fields. My husband has been trying to get a job--any minimum wage job--for a year now.

Once you are older than 40 though it becomes next to impossible to get a "real" minimum wage job because the youngsters are perceived as having more energy and attracting more customers into the store.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
