If you had to defend yourself, would you feel more comfortable with or without a gun?

I would feel more comfortable with a gun. If someone or something is coming after you using lethal force, lethal force is the only appropriate response. I am of the belief that serial killers, mass murderers, and a host of other violent criminals should have been killed in the commission of their first crime.

If they are dealt with properly the first time you will have saved numerous other families and communities needless heartbreaks. Every adult should be carrying a gun, and they also need to be properly trained in it's use. Everyone has to remember that for every right we possess we also possess several layers of responsibility.

Australia had one of the worst mass murders in history - at Port Arthur. We do not allow automatic weapons to be owned by anyone! Just keep that in mind....look it up if you're interested.

We do however have many guns in our country for farming and hunting - mainly rifles and shotguns. I used to own a shotgun. I used to hunt my food when I traveled around the country many years ago.

I got quite good at it. I was taught how to shoot by a policeman, at the range. He also told me how to defend myself.

He didn't teach me to use a gun for that. I learnt other methods of defending myself ( martial arts and how-to-run-fast-even-in-high-heels-and-a-dress ). I would never use a gun against anyone!

I would rather run away. I would rather I got hurt. It's funny how different countries view violence of this sort.

I'm sure so many here have a gun in the bedroom, a gun in the car, a gun in the garage etc etc etc etc. What's the damn point when you know everyone has one. I would defend myself but not with a gun. I'm not that stupid because they are probably a better shot than me and could probably beat me anyway.

I'd probably get shot with my own gun. Grief. It happens all the time! Guns are F____KED and no, I couldn't care less if you agree or not :).

Give me an Ithaca full bore pump action 10 gauge and all you'll find of the folks who threaten me are itty bitty pieces. Works right through your front door too! Now my wife has a sweet little semiautomatic 410 that will do just fine when I'm not home, But great gGod almighty, that 10 gauge has a kick that will knock a lot of grown men back a step or two, and talk about a bruised shoulder, I sometimes wish I had mounted it on wheels like a cannon!

I would feel comfortable with a gun, because I know how to handle one: however, the bad person could get it from me and shoot me with it. This is a loaded question, to make a pun. Being careful where you go and how you go about things is more important than the gun.

Prevention is always the answer. Knowing how to handle yourself is part of this. A gun is oh so dangerous in the wrong hands. My father and brother and uncles all hunted and shot guns in target practice.

They felt it important that my sister and I learned all about guns, so we would not have any accidents. We were taught how to handle and shoot them...how not to point them in any dangerous direction. We learned that the bullet hits the target instantly and is very dangerous.

I say all this, because if my friend's son had been taught this information, he would still be alive. He said, sadly, that he never showed his son. He was teaching him to be a camera man in his own foot steps.

Too many stories about kids getting a hold of a gun and finding one of them instantly killed. Education and target practice at a shooting range should always be implemented in a child's daily education, also, discussions at the dinner table can save a lot of mistakes and heart ache.

Well this is quite a good question for me to answer. I have been in a situation where some people would think a gun may have been needed. First of all, I have never owned a gun, and hope I never have to.As I was born in New Zealand, our Police never carry guns, (not sure now, as haven't lived there for over 30 years) So the only people who had guns were farmers and hunters, so never thought about having a gun in the home, as lived in the city.

But, I do live in Croatia, and was here the whole duration of the recent war. As my husband was absent most of the time the war was as it worst, (he was in Dubrovnik defending the city) I was on my own, with two children, in my home.It was a very frighting time, and many times during the long dark nights, with no electricity, people would come banging on the door. I had some very old fashioned weapons by the door, just in case.

A very heavy thick wooden handle of a tool, a knife, and a sharp hoe. I would of used these weapons if I had too, and would not of hesitated, if I didn't pass out first, that is! I won't go into details of this terrible time, as this is not the question.

I felt safe with these weapons, as never have owned a gun, and wouldn't know how to use it. Plus, fear can make you react to quickly, and could of used it at the wrong time. I feel that guns placed in the wrong hands is just a disaster.

I think there are other options that can be used, in a bad situation, and it doesn't have to be a gun. I think guns should only be used by trained and licensed persons. , and not out of everyday fear.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
