If I'm trying to compare value then I don't see the point in counting the number of gifts. If she buys my children two cute inexpensive presents and I buy her child one of equal value then no one should complain.....but I don't put 'value' on presents like that - sometimes its the cheap easy gift that's the best! No, I don't go out of my way to buy two for their child but I also would try to be 'even' about how much we spend on each other.

Maybe instead of gifts, each family should exchange gift cards for the exact same amount, then it could be spent however you wanted, and no one would be slighted.
The spirit of Christmas is about giving. I wouldn't expect my daughter who has five children to buy my son (her younger brother) 5 presents just because I bought all of them one. LOL Although, I'm sure my son would argue differently. It's the thought that counts not how many presents you give or receive.
I guess it matters what you are going for. Personally, I would perhaps spend more and buy a nicer gift for her child, but especially if all three children are opening presents at the same time, it might make your children unhappy to see her child get two presents while they each got one. The exception would be if your two children wanted to each give a gift to their friend.
Then, small gifts wrapped or signed individually from your children would be appropraite.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
