Depends 1875: Depends on how much freight I could take. In order, I'd carry: 1. My glasses and a spare set.2.
Dental care supplies and aspirin. 3. Broad spectrum antibiotics and pain killers.4.
A really good pair of Rockport boots.5. 20 years worth of stock market reports, 1875 to 1895.6. All the gold I could put together..
Argue the Secrets of the Universe I would go back to the dark ages... with me I would take a supply of antibiotics (Amox, Cipro, etc), an M-16 rifle and a large supply of ammunition w/ an M103 granade launcher on it and a number of grenades, a Kevlar bullet proof vest, a Glock 18 9mm handgun with a supply of teflon coated ammo and a set of titanium armor w/ chain mail and kevlar... A sword made of the best modern steel alloys, and Hentley's book of 20th Century Trade Secrets... (to pawn myself off as an inventor). I would commence to be the King of the Vikings in short order and we would conquer the world... I would invent electricity, the light bulb, the electric guitar and amplifier, and then "The Beatles", and argue with Galileo about the nature of the Universe...
I'd mess up history real good. Nice question. Read Julian May's 'Saga of the Pliocene Exile' - it has a similar premise.
First order of business, what to take into the past: One of those new Amazon electronic books or similar device - loaded with a complete encylopedia, a book on plants and herbs, basic medicines and how to make them, text books from every major scientific discipline, a (really) good history book, texts on materials manufacture and working (forging steel from iron and coke, etc. ), books on animals and insects, a mathematics text, a survival manual, the complete works of the classical philosphers and sages throughout the ages. Any remaining storage would be used for fiction I have not read. Three solar-powered chargers/adaptors for above device.
Hard copies of the survival, herbal medicine/plants, history book, and metal/materials working, and chemistry texts. Pocket English-to-___________ dictionaries. The best full-body (including helmet) titanium armor and bladed weapons available, minimum two swords, 6 throwing knives/spearheads, and 4 daggers/knives with serrated edges.
One additional survival knife with hard scabbard - to include a cable saw, compass, measurements (on scabbard), navagational aids, firestarter, fish hooks, water proof matches. Armor design must include impact and puncture resisting elements (probably some sort of chainmail with trauma plates and padding). A sharpening stone/tools.
A top-of-the-line multi-tool (Leatherman type). 5 modern highest quality bow strings. A pair of compact composite and stainless steel firearms in .
22 magnum with 4 high capacity magazines. 2000 rounds of ammunition in watertight container, mixed types. Something like the old Grendle P-30, but better.
Compact cleaning kit with replacement springs and disassembly tools. Gh quality goggles/sunglasses with polycarbonate lenses and water-tight seal. The best all-weather boots and gloves available, in armored and unarmored versions.
Neoprene cold-weather bodysuit. A wide-spectrum antibiotic - 200 doses. Asprin - 1000 tablets Immunizations against everything we have an immunization for.
A high-concentration multivitamin. 2000 doses. A shock resistant, sapphire crystal multifunction hybrid kinetic/solar diving watch, preferably digital with calculator.
A medium-sized solar/kinetic rechargable LED torch with 3 extra bulbs in a padded case. Gh-strength cable or cord, 100'. A lightweight survival harness with mounts/space for anything not worn.
Various holsters/sheaths/scabbards and belts/webbing. Heavy weather matte black insulated kevlar/ballistic nylon or similar material cloak with hood. Two stainless steel camping thermoses in mega-extra huge size.
One containing my last cup of Starbucks coffee,Sumatra. The other containing a 50 year old cask-strength Speyside. Now, where and when to go.... I'm torn between some temperate zone forest prior to human history, and Europe 1000 years ago.
I'd probably pick Europe, and set myself up as a sage/oracle/advisor to the King and quickly rise to weild great influence and power with my modern knowledge. I'd concealmy gear as best I could for as long as I could from any jealous rivals. Possibly I'd just go up into the hills where I might be left alone; and visit town occassionally for company and supplies.
I'd keep a low and benevolent profile regardless of which way I played it, and quietly crush anyone who messed with me, my home, position, or my stuff. It would be more interesting but less safe than the pre-human/post dinosaur option of going back 66 million years or so. I thought of taking pictures of my family, but decided against.
They could only hurt to look on. Sources: I think, therefore there's lots of stuff floating around in my head... Not far... I'd go back just over a hundred years to when Oregon was first being settled. I'd take period appropriate tools and guns, and finish my load with small gold ingots, to be able to buy what I couldn't carry. I'd stake my claim, and carry on with my life.

Unless of course, they chose for you and sent you into the middle of the Black Plague or something like that and wouldn't let you take any gold with you. If I had to only go back 100 years, I'd choose the western U.S. And take gold to buy some land and I'd take a history book to make sure the area I chose would be a good area to live. A history book always helps as it can help you to avoid areas where you know there is going to be trouble.
Now, if I could choose to go back further than 100 years, and I could take quite a bit of gold where I could live well, I don't think I'd mind the Middle Ages so I could live in the time of knights and damsels in Europe. You'd have to give up a lot, namely, HOT WATER and BATHROOMS! But, I think it'd be cool to be able to see jousting tournaments, etc. I most certainly wouldn't want to live as a peasant in those times because it would be a really rough existence.
This is a cool question..
The drug use as crime requiring punishment.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
