It may serve you well to attempt market research as a calling in life, and for this, you need a bit of college behind you. There are many many industries -- many, many sectors -- many, many countries and MANY MANY management styles.
I believe you'd do well to approach a good market firm and lay your cards on the table -- if you are a young'un, ask what types of studies you're going to need. At the very least, get a CFA and BEST of luck.
