The iBookstore delivers digital booktitles with the Fairplay digital rights management software. Apple has used Fairplay in the past on iTunes store content. This means an iBookstore title can't be read on other ebook readers.
The confusing part is that Apple advertises that the ebooks are in EPUB format which is a standard format - they are but also have DRM attached. Apple has also made available Project Gutenberg download apple ebooks|ebooks available that you can read for free on your iBooks app. These free ebooks don't have the DRM software.
If you don't like the selection on the iBookstore, you can always download the Kindle app for iPad and get books from Amazon instead.
IBooks are in a open source format called ePub, but have a layer of DRM on them. Any book your purchase can be shared to other iPads, iPhones, and iPod Touches if you're using the same iTunes account on each device, and sycning to the same machine. The DRM on iBooks does not allow it to be transferred to other reader like the Kindle or Sony e-Reader however.
As far as I'm concerned, this is Apple's single biggest mistake with the iPad. We can get by without Flash support and the lack of connectivity options such as USB is bearable. However, the ePub format and the short sighted view of Apple in the eBook arena is completely backwards.
Imagine a world where a company releases an inexpensive tablet computer that is easily available and consumer friendly. Combine this with an entire community of teachers, instructors and professors ready for a leap into the eBook world. Sadly, the greedy company creates a new file format and makes it easier than any other format to use.
This format is locked in DRM but more than that simply isn't easy to use and uncomfortable for content creators to use. This is what's going on with the ePub format right now. We're sort of in the middle of a solution that could revolutionize post secondary education and yet Apple has firmly inserted their greed in the middle of everything.
Hopefully Apple has a way for content creators, teachers, instructors etc to make creating digital courseware easy and cheap.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
