Unless you know something I don't, there is no reason to doubt what Apple said. In manufacturing a physical product like this, you have to try to forecast demand as best as you can, and it's not that easy to increase planned production at the drop of a hat if it turns out higher than expected. If they sold 500k in a week in the US, and strong sales are continuing, whatever other problems they've had are clearly not slowing down consumer demand for the iPad.
Apple's got every reason to roll this thing out in as many countries as possible as quickly as possible before any competitors can get into the market.
This is a really great question and Philipy had a really great answer. The only thing that I can add is that sometimes, companies withhold stock to create demand and influence price. Supply and demand are the fickle laws of capitalism and it's interesting to wonder if Apple was perhaps just holding back a few (few hundred thousand) iPads just so that they could say the demand overwhelmed supply.
Typically, manufacturers selling products like the iPad have more than enough units ready to ship to meet demand but they only release a certain number so that consumer demand is maintained. When supply exceeds demand, we see sales, discounts and even sometimes liquidations. Still, rumors around the web tell us that Apple has had a small problem sourcing the screens and as a result, is a little short.
Hopefully whatever the problem is, it is fixed now and the 3G will ship on time to everyone who wants one.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
