That depends entirely on the dog itself. Some dogs are better around children. There are the stereotypes of dogs being nicer than others, but there are exceptions to every rule.
I would pay very close attention to the dog and infant before ever trusting the dog.
Any animal should be carefully supervised around a newborn and very small child. Even pets with mild temperaments could be startled or bothered in some way and pose a threat to an infant.
