Just because its there doesn't mean you need to watch it or even program it in to your TV. There are a bunch of channels available to me (mostly Spanish) that I totally ignore and which aren't programmed into the TV.

I suspect it is a front for some USA agency.

OMG No! We are all gonna die! Terrerests is gonna take over!

Sharia law is gonna be spread! Hide the women and childrens! .

It's a free country, which means it's about as ready as a country ever gets. A significant chunk of the country will flip out every time they enter a new market. That, too, is part of being a free country.

The third part of being a free country is that people gradually realize that the flip-out was completely unnecessary. Al Jazeera made quite the name for itself during the Iraq war. They were often ahead of the game, and I lost track of the number of times the Pentagon had to walk things back after al Jazeera called them on it.

It doesn't mean I like them. Their sensibilities are with Islam, and end up with an anti-Israel bias. It's not really possible to be "anti nothing and pro nothing", even though it is every journalist's goal.

While they may be trying to achieve that, when they fail, they always seem to fail in the same direction. Hardly surprising; everybody does that. But not pleasant.

Still, I'm absolutely thrilled to see them getting wider coverage in the US. It's good to get an outside point of view, and at least thus far they haven't given in to "infotainment" as all of the US cable news networks have.

I hope they make it on cable America. It will definitely widen the horizon of the viewing public in this country, as well as put Al Jazeera under closer scrutiny if they expect to win approval from all those zany alarmists who are most likely hiding under their beds at the thought of an Arab network invading their television sets. Americans generally hate having their horizons broadened. I would have dismissed those "zany alarmists" as being overreported by the media, except that they actually show up here. They may not be a majority, but there are enough that some of them walk into our tiny corner of the world.

So - this channel was available in my Uncle's place when I was overseas on vacation. The "new" British Al-Jazeera channel - and since this was in early February when there was a LOT going on over there - I can say honestly it was on all day. You know what?

It was pretty interesting. Pretty much straight up reporting on the situation - some commentary and analysis - but mostly observation from what I could tell. I only watched it for a couple of hours total on and off for a few days but it was refreshing.

Is America ready for it? Why not? :) .

I think America needs a refreshing dose of reality. Rhine44 13 months ago .

Sure. Why not? This is America! They have all those darn sports channels, why not a little change of pace in the foreign interest channels dept?

It's not like they are going to force viewers to watch it.

Re Watching CNN! " "HOW DO I GET MY DOGS ATH TO STOP SMELLING AND I'VE AL READY CLEANED THEM? " "Why do you never see Al Gore debating anyone on global warming on television?

" "Are you ready for the United Corporate States of America?" "how did the civil war re-define America?" "Should America Declare War on Exxon?

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
