Not always. I think it depends on the quality control. For instance, I have yet to find any factory mass produced items that will equal the quality of either a home made item or something made in a small shop or even in store, they seem to be more quality conscious.
When I lived in England there were in store bakeries at our local supermarkets. They produced a range of baked items, including truly delicious wholemeal and granary bread and the most irresistible cakes. You could smell the goodies as soon as you went in the store.
These items were not just baked, as sometimes happens, but made on the premises and were far nicer than anything I could make. The mass produced factory items they sold in the same stores were ok, but the quality was not nearly as good. There was also a Cornish Pasty shop we used to frequent in Tintagel, Cornwall.
This was a fairly large bakery, where you could see the pasties being made through the window and although they must have produced hundreds in the course of a day, the quality never varied, they were delicious, better than home made. So I think it's down to the quality, which you generally don't find is very high with a massively produced product.
I'd say the answer to the question is extremely variable on two factors, Whose the home-cook and what brand is the store bought or even who made the store bought (in case of deli/bakery items) Without knowing those two factors it's impossible to answer accurately. In my opinion a good home cook tops almost any store brand, however a lousy cook is almost always beat by the store brand. Since you bring up pie though, I've always had better luck with bakeries as well that's what these folks do for a living.. they bake, unless you have a grama or something with the ultra awesome secret recipes chances are buying it at the store will cost less than making it from scratch and taste better.
In general, I would say that homemade is better than store bought. To me, I can make homemade food a bit healthier than store bought food. To me homemade food is more comforting, as well.
I have tried many frozen dinners in my day and can not say I really like any of them. You mentioned that you found a pie that is better store bought than homemade. I have found a few store bought things that do not compare to homemade, as well.
When it comes to pizzas I really do not mind buying from the store. I have also eaten a few cheesecakes from the store that are absolutely scrumptious. I think it just depends on personal preference and what the item is.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
