Is it okay to copy and edit your own answer from a previous question that you've answered on Askville?

I believe it's fine... There have been at least a couple of occasions that I have answered similar questions, and it seems silly to come up with a different way of saying something that you've said before. However, when I've done this, I do mention in the "Sources:" line that part of my answer was copied from a previous answer I'd written, just to be complete about it. Boy, I hope there's no rule! I do reuse some of my content. My rule of thumb is that if I’m just going to cut and paste the entirety of a previous answer, I simply provide a link either in the discussion board or directly via PM to the question asker.

However, if I feel like I have additional information to add, either that I’ve thought of since the previous answer I gave, or to customize it to the new question, then I go ahead and reuse some content. For example, here’s a question that I answered yesterday about how a best answer ribbon is awarded. I used a lot of the content from this question that was previously asked about how a question asker can influence who is awarded a best answer ribbon.

If you read both answers, you’ll see that the bulk of the content is the same, but both answers were customized to be specific to the question asked. There are a lot of questions that come up again and again, usually Askville questions. They're valid questions, and the search function here is not at all robust, so I don't blame people for asking again rather than searching.

And, I think especially for newbies, it's kind of exciting to get answers to your question so I'd hate to see them just get discussion board answers rather than real answers. So for those reasons, I'll reuse content. Sources: My opinion...this time it's all original, first time to be posted :) .

I think it is OK, providing..... the other answer had good approval from other Askvilles, like it received a Best Answer rosette; you make it clear that you are pasting in a reply you've made elsewhere, and maybe even add in the link/url to the other q. ; if you can, you add a bit more to the current answer so it is not only a cut and paste job. I have done this for one answer I've made and explained when I used it again why I was using that same answer again.

I must admit for that answer I had surpassed myself mega-ly! Here is the repeat of that answer - third answer down at askville.amazon.com/askville/AnswerViewe... Sources: me! Kind of,I'll explain. It's actually considered a repeatedposting, thus reportable. I know early on,one user received a warning for doing this same thing, though he didn't edit the answer.

What it boils down to: Someone would have to report you, which probably won't happen. Most people here are concerned with real abuse, and Askville doesn't moderate the site,so someone would actually have to bring it to their attention. I'm sure,if it's a really good answer that answersthe entire question,Askvile would probably turn the other cheek.

Editting the post is the best way to ensure the answer fits the question, which kinda makes it NOT a repeated posting. Obviously you know by now,you must edit it before it's submitted. I use some of my answers as templates to do the same thing, but generally questions about Questville and quest coins, because there are so many questions on them, and we have no idea what they do (are).

I wouldn't make a huge habit out of this, because someone will eventually pick up on it and,if they get a "wild hair",they may begin to report you. Askville definitely wouldn't do anything about the first post or trwo, but if they start getting ots of reports, you'll be warned, but just an e mail warning. If that happens,STOP.

The next step is a 250 coin fine and they put you under the microscope. I admit,I've done this several times, but I always edit the answer. Sources: Askville .

People asking questions should check first to see if the topic's already been covered. If you've already done the research, why do it again? I am also part of Yahoo Answers and I answer the same questions over and over and I actually have bits of boilerplate saved in a .

Txt file. However, to take someone else's answer from Askville, that's not right. I've also seen where people have given links to Yahoo Answers and other similar sites as their answer and that seems pretty cheesy to me.

" "Once you've posted a question here on Askville, is it possible to edit it?...." "What was your favorite question to answer on Askville?" "I am new to askville. Do I compliment all who answered a question. Or just the most helpful?" "OK Askville: Why did noone get best answer on this question?

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
