Splenda is approved by the FDA, Stevia is not If I were able to breastfeed, I would trust a sweetener which IS approved by the FDA for use in food, and which has passed more than 110 human and animal safety studies and has been approved for use in all food since 1999. Splenda (Sucralose) has been shown to be entirely safe in any normal consumption. fda.gov/cdrh/fdaandyou/issue13.pdf Stevia, on the other hand, has NOT been approved by the FDA, and some studies have shown that it isn't as safe as its sellers would want you to believe. It is also not permitted to be sold in food in the UK or elsewhere within the EU.
fda.gov/FDAC/features/1999/699_sugar.html http://archive.food.gov.uk/pdf_files/stevia.pdf I personally don't know how safe Stevia is, but since the sellers have been unable to prove to either the US or UK food safety organizations that it is safe, and since it would obviously be in their best interests to prove it safe so they could sell it, I would highly question its safety! A lot of people want to tell you that Stevia is safe because it's natural, but poison mushrooms and snake venom are all natural too! Nature makes lots of very dangerous things.
All the people online I've seen who are supporting Stevia are either trying to sell it to you, or want to sell you books about it, so I question their motives. If it's so safe, get it approved, just like every other sweetener has to be. If you can't get it approved for use in food, I'm not going to eat it, simple as that.

Based on the available studies Stevia is a plant derivative. It happens to be 1000s of times sweeter than sugar. It has slightly bitter background taste but it isn't at all offensive tasting. It is indeed a natural plant substance which is extracted from the Stevia plant.
Splenda also claims to be made from "sugar so it tastes like sugar" but then later on the label it says, "Cotains no Sugar" which confuses me -- don't know about how it makes you feel... Speaking out of both sides of ones mouth I'd say. Frankly, unless your doctor has directed you to avoid sugar (because of pregnany-induced diabetes) then I would prefer sugar over either of these substances. Sure, sugar isn't nutritious.
It's a bunch of empty calories.... but at least we know it doesn't change chemically in the body's digestive process or in cooking. Cut back on the sugar. Don't substitute other stuff we don't know enough about for the sugar.
It might be ok. But why bother taking that chance. When my kids were in vitro, my ex stopped drinking sodas, (diet and regular), stopped the coffee, NO alcohol, stayed away from second-hand smoke -- anything she could do to give the developing person inside her the best chance.
It's only for a few months. Do what's right..
Splenda is to new to know. Go with Stevia. Its natural.
Sucralose can be used safely during pregnancy and by nursing mothers. Studies in animal models showed that sucralose is not actively transported across the placental barrier or from the mammary gland into breast milk. Sources: splendaprofessional.com/splendaprof/page... .
Stevia doesn't hurt you and splenda does. I don't eat any sugar or fruit. A carrot tastes sweet to me..
1 newfietom, regarding your answer "Based on the available studies":"Made from sugar" is because Sucralose (splenda) is made with a chemical reaction by changing the sugar molecule so that the body doesn't convert it to fat. It is made from sugar in that way, but it doesn't contain any sugar, because the molecule has been converted to sucralose. It's not talking out of both sides of their mouth, it's just marketing, but it happens to be true.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
