Is it true - or is it just my imagination - but people, as they get older seem to look for solace in religion? LOT MORE?

LOT MORE I got tracked down by some of the people I went to high school with and I can assure you that none of them had religion at the time. So, (one reason I steer clear of Facebook most days) when I go to the ever-popular FB page, it's like I've stumbled into a camp meeting or something! Everybody is "glory, hallelujahing" all over the place etc. Makes me wonder what happened to them over the years that they'd make a complete turnaround like that (even the class 'ho has religion now!

I think that is very true OH. When I go to Mass every week the majority of people attending are older with a scattering of young people with small children. I'll admit that when I was a young mother with two children and all the work that entails I believed in God but did not go to church on a regular basis.

I never lost my Faith, I guess I put other things first. Now that I am older and the kids are grown I never miss Mass ever. When I look back I feel badly that I did not observe my Faith like I do now.

I think when you get older you have more time to look back at your life and see all the ways that God looked out for you and you never noticed. Also you have the time to be grateful and you want to pray and attend services. I am no way a "Holy Roller" but I always feel better after leaving Mass.

I don't know. In my case no. It made me examine my belief system more closely.

I too notice on FB all the signs and slogans. To my way of thinking, if you are LIVING it, you dont' need the tee-shirts and caps. Just sayin'.....

Depends on how you define "religion" I think as people mature, they take whatever belief structure they have more seriously; and high school is often a place where people keep fairly quiet about their beliefs in order to blend in with their classmates. Also; as people get older they tend to get more opinionated; so whatever belief system they have becomes more prominent.

For myself I find that I have taken what I learned in the information of the Bible, or the following behavior of other beliefs, and have tried to blend it with what is proven in science ,and the older I get the more I see the blending, so I feel just sticking to a religious point of view I miss the whole picture like having blinders on. Science and religion for me are one and they tell a fascinating story. I like to see if all religious beliefs can fit into the science of the universe and I find that the core of them do, however some of their individual add ons can be distracting.

We are after all energy, as is, everything is made of energy and it all vibrates at different levels, we are the energy that is capable of changing the vibrations of all other energies. We are right now having a human experience. So to say I seek religion and gatherings with people to pray and go to mass or whatever, no, I don't , but I seek to find, and I knock for that door to be opened with enlightenment, and I ask to receive more wisdom of how it all comes together without the influence of false information.

What ever floats your boat! .

Finding God can happen at any age. At 13 I walked away from religion and went on my own search for answers which led to fine guidance in "Spirituality", not religion. There is a difference.

Recently I came across the young girl, Akiane, who painted pictures from age of 4 who said, "I don't go to church, I go to God. I think the older a person gets, and the closer to the grand dirt nap, they want to hedge their bets, just in case. My uncle and aunt were like that - they got older and reired and "found" religion. It was sad.

I think there's 2 reasons why many people become more spiritual as they grow older. Youth is a time to question things. It's a time for furniture moving.

The older we get, the more time we've had to question things and find our answers. The second reason is that the older we get, the closer we get to the end of our life on earth. Younger people might have developed a faith, but it might not be as important to them in their 20s or 30s as it is when they're getting near the end of their lives.

Religion became important to me when my sister was murdered. It was sudden and unexpected. I married a Catholic and converted but stopped practicing Catholicism.

After Linda was murdered, I found they were the only ones who prayed for the dead. I found comfort in my husband's church. Perhaps a third reason is that as we get older we have more loved ones die.

Yes , it's true ; we realize that we are closer to the end than the beginning . =) .

Your 'Change category' does not work. You put my 'computer' question into 'Religion & Spirituality.

Religion has nothing to do with being a criminal..why do some people cant understand that.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
