Is pain and swelling under the left rib associated with an UTI?

I was diagnosed with an UTI and just finished a round of antibiotics. The symptoms are still around, plus I have pain and swelling under my left rib and back pain. I am going back to the doctor tomorrow, but was wondering if anyone else has had this experience.

Pain under the ribs is not a common sign of a urinary tract infection.. ...but back pain IS common, especially if the UTI has developed into a kidney infection. Also, it is possible for you to have "referred pain", where you hurt somewhere other than where the problem actually is. That could account for your rib area pain.

For instance, the first time I realized that I tend to get low back pain when I have something wrong in my abdominal or pelvic area is when I got appendicitis back in the 1970's. Although I had a high white cell count, which is generally a sign of infection in the body, all of my pain seemed to be in my low back. I saw two different doctors, (my family practitioner, and the back doctor he sent me to), and neither one figured out it was actually my appendix, until I went back to my family practitioner yet again, and he happened to press down on my abdomen; when he let go, I about went off of the exam table, which is a classic sign of appendicitis.

But by that time, I was really sick, and though I had an appendectomy that same day, I had complications that kept me in the hospital for eight days. Since then, I have had the same type of back pain when I had the "stomach flu", and when I had menstrual cramps. At least now I know about the referred pain, and I make sure that any doctor who sees me knows about it as well!

At any rate, I am glad that you are going to the doctor tomorrow. If you have to, keep being a squeaky wheel until someone figures out why you are still having pain! Good luck, and I hope you feel better soon!

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
