They can't fire you for calling up references a few months later and getting iffy opinions. They CAN fire you for lying about credentials (degrees held, certifications earned) or not disclosing legal concerns (under investigation for fraud and you work in finance). If you lied on the application about credentials or eligibility to hold the job, they can fire you for that at any point in your employment.
There would not be a law involved in this question because of Lochner v. New York way back in 1905 . The company has its own policies for what they demand of applicants, from nothing to everything.
If you started the job already, then they don't think that much of your past employment but merely want it. Ask THEM how long you have to get it in to them.
Basically everyone but TamaraW is right. If you provided them with references, there is no limit for when they can contact them. They can fire you at any time, for any reason, or no reason at all (except discrimination against a legally protected class).
Can't quite see how there could be a problem. They're not going to hire you until they've checked your references. Even if they skipped that stage, I don't see why there should be a statute of limitations on this.
If they want to check your references a year later I don't see why the law should get involved. If you're wishing for some time limit to expire, because you fibbed on the references, I'm not on your side of this.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
