Is there a piece of Hardware that will allow you to spin LP's and 45's and covert them to MP3's?

I have a collection of Long Playing Albums (LP's) and an assortment of 45 RPM records from the 1960's that I would like to convert to MP3's. I am not alone, I am a member of the 'Baby Boomers' and about to retire and love my ipod which plays MP3's. We number in the millions so I think there would be some interprising Hardware manufacturer making a product that would meet these needs.

I have thousands of songs from my youth (1950-1970) in the form of these vinyl LP's and 45's that I want to be able to add to my MP3 collection. I see no reason why I should pay iTunes 99 cents to download music that I already own. Can you help me out here?

You may already have it. Most computer sound cards have inputs... so a trip to the Radio Shack for the appropriate cable, and you're all set to record. If your sound card doesn't have an input, you can replace it with one that does cheaply.

Also, if you are interested in video capture (convert those old VHS home movies to DVD! ) then you might consider a video capture card, or even a TV-tuner card (use your PC like a Tivo! ) and those will also let you transfer audio from records.

There is one other thing you'll need though - a stereo receiver or pre-amp. You can't plug a turntable straight into the PC as the sound needs to be amplified first... not amplified to "speaker" levels, but amplified to line level... which is what a pre-amp does, but all stereo receivers have pre-amps. So if you have a stereo that can have your turntable hooked to it, just run a cable from the audio out of your stereo to the audio in of your sound card.

The next step is software, which is a little trickier idf you want decent quality. I recommend Exact Audio Copy - its free, and its the best cd ripper out there for accurate quality - but it also has the ability to clean up recordings from LP... lets you split the tracks into seperate files, convert to MP3, lets you easily clean up the pops and clicks, etc. Just google Exact Audio Copy. For it to convert the files to MP3, you need to download the LAME encoder and tell Exact Audio Copy where it is on your harddrive.

LAME is free also. The reason for this is because when you record the sound from your LPs at first they will be in WAV format - incidentally if you want to make a regular CD of them, just burn the WAVs to CD without converting to MP3. That's all you need!

There are turntables that will convert your records directly to a digital output The prices are not necessarily low, but there are several turntables that are designed specifically to directly convert your records to a variety of digital formats. The link I have included is to the three results of a search for such hardware in Amazon. Com's electronics department.

That should give you a good starting point to know what to look for, specifically, even if you decide to compare prices or reviews elsewhere. I hope this is of use to you. Sources: amazon.com/s/ref=sr_nr_seeall_1/002-9851... .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
