Jehovah's Witnesses: Have you really researched your New world Translation?

The very points you raise were covered in this Yahoo question some time ago. http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/ind... Some JWs answered, plus others who gave evidence of JW research on the subject being woefully inadequate. You might find it useful to go to that resolved question.

To answer your question in brief, it is because JWs think the cross is pagan, and that Roman Catholics worship the cross, that they try to distance themselves from it. Well, of course the cross was pagan! Rome was a pagan empire, and they used various different types of crosses to torture people to death.

But Jesus triumphed because of the cross, and the Bible tells us that the cross is the power of God unto salvation! Paul said he gloried in the cross of Christ! Jesus told us to pick up our cross daily in order to follow Him!

But the JWs seem to stumble over the cross of Christ, deriding it. Alas, their doctrine of what Jesus accomplished by his death is badly affected, and they would try to limit it. It seems they neither understand who it was, dying at Calvary, nor grasp the magnitude of what He achieved.

That is why they say that people must pay for their own sins by dying. This violates the achievement of Christ's death to an appalling extent. They are not preaching the truth of the gospel (or good news) of what Jesus did by dying and being resurrected.

Take great care.

The scriptures that refer to a stake or a tree refer to the pole that was placed in the ground in preparation for crucifixion, (notice what the word "crucifixion" itself means) and also refers to Jesus carrying a separate beam to the crucifixion site. One stake planted, the other carried=cross after the carried beam is hung onto the vertical stake. Witnesses seem to have read the greek too literally.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
