Knitters: What is your favorite stitch-pattern?

I go through different things at different times Right now, I'm really into lace knitting. It is challenging, beautiful and soooo feminine. I am about to finish a Faroese shawl and it looks wonderful. So I am back to smaller needles and difficult patterns for a while.

Before that, I worked on a whole series of scarves and hats in different patterns for a craft show in my area, and also for charities. "Lacy" looking scarves and shawls made with large needles. I had an "Aran" period, when I made several sweaters and a beautiful cardigan in some complicated patterns.

A few years ago, it was patterns and fair isle. I made a sweater for a friend with a very detailed picture of a horse's head, for which I had about 15 different colors running at the same time. That was probably the most challenging in that area.

I found out that the best way to work on a challenging pattern is to have something else to work on in between: you get tired of concentrating on the difficult one, that doesn't mean you have to stop knitting. You can go to that scarf and hat for your kid, or to a small baby ensemble for your friend's shower. That way, you come back rested, but still nimble, to your difficult project.

If I had to chose one thing, it would probably be lace, but it is time consuming and I don't think I could do only that. Beside, I always like to try new things. I have this terror about getting arthritis and no longer being able to knit.

I would be miserable! You're trying to catch us! LOL You're really trying to get us knitters away from our knitting. I don't mind.

I needed the break. I love the lace pattern generally called the fan. It works up nicely for shawls but I've also made an afghan using the same stitch.

Also depending on what size needle you use, it is delicate or a bit sturdier. For a real treat, try it in a mohair. Talk about luxury..
