Pull the hard drive, put it into an external caddy and plug that into whatever second computer you have access to. COPY those files toa flash drive or another external hard drive, if you can. Download & install Easus Partition Manager (free for home users) and run the recovery wizard and try copying what it can save to a large flash drive, another hard drive, or whatever media you have available (floppy disk, CD, DVD, SD card.....).
I have saved an Easy Transfer from my previous laptop to use when I get a new laptop - and I update that Easy Transfer every couple of months, depending on what new files I want to make sure I have if & when I get a new computer. It came in handy last month when my graphics card died - no white dash on the black screen. Just a dark screen and odd beeping noises...but I digress.
Good luck - sometimes the right recovery program can get some of the information for you.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
