I'm not getting a mental image of what sort of light fixture you are thinking of; so I am wondering why there is a red wire. Typically, if there are no controls or other unusual pieces, hookup is simply ground (sometimes green, sometimes bare) to ground, white to white, and colored to colored. (which in your case would be black and red) but without knowing why there is a red, I can't commit to that.

The light fixture is a fluorescent light ceiling fixture. I don't know way there is a red one either. Alicearts 8 months ago .

A thought just occurred to me: if it is a dimmable ballast, then there is a further complication. Also if it is a ballast that is rated to run on one of two different voltages.

I would tape over the red wire, and hook up the other three in the obvious way. If the light fixture has a switch on it, the red might be switched hot.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
