Maybe Moving to San Antonio I may be taking a new job in San Antonio. The office is just north of the Medical Center area of the city. Anyone know of any newer, decent apartment complexes in that area?
Also how is Time Warner's cable service both TV and internet? Any help is appreciated. Asked by mabinog62 51 months ago Similar questions: Moving San Antonio Local > United States > San Antonio - TX.
Get a satellite dish! Ok, I live just outside San Antonio and teach at UTSA which is in the far Northwest portion of the city. However, because of the high rents in SA, I live elsewhere - and they are particularly expensive in the Medical Centre area.
I moved into the 'burbs over 10 years ago when my $475, 2-bedroom townhouse in the Medical Centre area jumped to $675 - which was a ridiculous jump. I now have a 3-bedroom place with a garage and pay less than that, although I will admit the owner isn't a greedy s-o-b like most of these outfits you're going to rent an apartment from. Any place that is worth living in North of Loop 1604 will cost you an arm and a leg and probably another body part as well - and that's before they hit you with the security deposit and then you get hit with subsequent security deposits as well for utilities etc.In short, any place you choose that is located outside of Loop 410 (inner loop - and you don't want to drive on that unless you have to because of construction which has been going on forever and apparently will never end) will cost plenty and the further out you go towards 1604, the higher the prices.
Basically, anything between Route 281 and Interstate 10 is the highest since that covers the Medical Centre area extensively. I have students who are paying close to $800 a month for a one-bedroom efficiency and that's because they want to be close to the university. My advice - move out into the Northeast area and into one of the smaller communities such as Live Oak, Converse, Schertz, Selma and the rents will be considerably cheaper - you have no idea how much cheaper! Yeah, you're going to wind up driving a little further and will be sitting in traffic a little longer, but if you have a car that's gas-efficient, you will still come out ahead in the long run.
Now then, about Time-Warner - or as many of us refer to it, Slime Warner. Their cable service really, really, really Sucks - and I think I'm being kind. It will go out every time it rains.
And their rates are ridiculously high for what you get. Two alternatives: AT&T (which used to be SBC) will offer you decent, but not great internet service, but its reasonably priced. Unfortunately, at this time, they don't offer cable, but I have an idea they will be sooner, rather than later.
IF you get lucky and live in an area serviced by Grande Cable - go with them - and if I'm not mistaken, they offer internet service as well.As luck would have it, they aren't in the little town where I live, so all I know is what people have told me. I have seen a list of their TV channel offerings and for less money, you can get more channels. And everyone who has Grande speaks highly of it - not everyone will do that for Slime Warner.
Hope that I haven't painted too bleak of a picture of living here, because its not all that bad in comparison to other places I've lived - and I've lived here 21 years now, so if it was all that bad, I would have bailed a long time ago. Here's another negative though - grocery shopping. The local HEB chain has a virtual monopoly on groceries with the only other alternatives being Wal-Mart, Target and Handy Andy (if they're still in business).
I still haven't gotten used to not being able to go to a warehouse grocery store or a Kroger's! Getting back to your living accommodations: your best bet might be to contact a realtor and talk to a rental agent. Some will help with apartment searches, some will put you in touch with someone who can help you.
That's a lot better than going through Apartment Finders which will find you a very expensive place! Hope all this helps a little - if you'd like more information about anything, please don't hesitate to e-mail me through the facilities on here and I'll be more than happy to pass on what information I can and help you out. And welcome to the area!

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
