Most of the time we have bad dreams and nightmares. Why?

I did have a few bad dreams growing up, but none that I could call nightmares. However, these days, and I'm over 50, I cannot remember the last time I had even a bad dream. Personally, I think dreams/nightmares are a reflection of our soul.

If we are at peace within, good dreams come, and vice-versa. I have no proof of this, but just that it seems to work out that way a lot of the time.

You can have nightmares when you've put too many blankets on the bed, when you get over-heated during the night. If it wakes you up you might notice you're sweating. Change the blankets you use with the seasons so that you don't have too many when it's a warmer night and you'll find you'll avoid nightmares.

When we sleep, the wall comes down between our conscious and our unconscious thinking. Sometimes, if we are worried about something when we are awake, we try not to think about it or dwell on it because it makes us feel bad. However, when we sleep, our subconscious mind takes over and we cannot just stop it.

Our nightmares are sometimes a reflection of our worries. Unfortunately, they are many times symbolic, so we might not understand them at first. Always keep a pen and some paper near your bed.

When you first wake up, write down every detail you can remember. Later on, you can analyze what your subconscious is trying to tell you. If you are not familiar with dream symbolism, you can research to find answers for yourself, or you can talk to a counselor who can help you find meaning with the symbolism.Dr. Marie.
