My 16 almost 17 year old is thinking of joining the Air force after school?

I don’t know the details of your lives and circumstances…. It may be a good idea. However, if you have the means to send him to college, that should be his first step after high school.

Joining any of the services gives kids a step up in life…with learning trades, and even being subsidized for more education both within and after his stint.

This is the school that most go to:The Uniformed Services University is the Nation's federal health sciences university and is committed to excellence in military medicine and public health during peace and war. We provide the Nation with health professionals dedicated to career service in the Department of Defense and the United States Public Health Service and with scientists who serve the common good. I hope it's not too late to answer your question but that's not the way it works. It is certainly true that the AF will pay for his medical school but one can't just go to medical school after HS. You have to go to college first, graduate and then apply for medical school, same as law school etc.In a nutshell, if being a doctor in the AF is his goal, he needs to get his 4 year degree first and get accepted to an accredited medical school.

Then he can talk to an AF recruiter about options as a medical professional in the AF. On the other hand, there are other factors to consider in the meantime. For example, how is he going to pay for the 4-year degree after HS.

Does he plan on taking on a ton of student loans or does he have a full scholarship etc. In the active duty AF, he can have a job and go to college practically for free. I finished my 4-year degree while in the AF in 3 years actually because I received a lot of credits just for my job training. I have an MBA..all in 7 years and I paid zero out of my pocket....well except books.

Like I said, there is a lot to consider. Hope I was able to shed some light on this issue for you.Sgt. C.

There are no guarantees in life. If he signs on as a military doctor AND QUALIFIES, then he will be trained in that field, before he is deployed. However, if he signs on WISHING to be a military doctor AND DOES NOT QUALIFY, then he will be assigned to another field, trained in that field, and deployed. In other words, they won't field an untrained doctor, but the air force isn't a guaranteed free ride to med.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
