My 2 cats have fleas! I have never had pets with fleas before, and I'm freaking out! What can I do other than ... putting Advantage drops, and getting anti-flea spray and vaccuming powder?
I've been doing some reading but there's a lot of "oh this doesn't work, try that...", so anyone who has experienced this before, please help! Especially with cost-effective remedies and treatments.... :( Asked by GenelleH 4 months ago Similar questions: cats fleas pets freaking Pets > Pets - Health.

Frontline and those other applications scare me. I use a flea comb and after a couple of weeks they're gone.
They come with handles too, just make sure it has metal tines. I get a small wide mouth jar, put a couple drops of dish soap in it, and add water. You comb at an angle along the skin and fleas get stuck in the tines, you pull 'em off and drop them into the jar.
You do it every couple days and soon you'll notice you aren't finding any fleas. The cats LOVE to be flea combed. I use one like this: jpg.
OMG! I'm so sorry to hear that. I don't have any experience with fleas on pets,,but I tell you, the first thing I would do is call my vet and ask them directly.
I understand how they can take over your home! .
Yeah we went to the pet store, and also got some natural remedies. SO annoying! :(( But we have pets all up and down my block, so it could have been from anyone/anything.

Oh no,,well I'm sure there are a lot of people here that can help you. Good Luck! .
I swear by a product called Program, you mix it into their food. When I lived in Ukiah Ca, I had 3 cats and a nasty flea infestation, I took my cats to the vet for a flea bath and an overnight stay, had my place professionally exterminated , yeah it was that bad, and started feeding the Program to my cats, it WORKED, my cats have never had a flea since. My cats are strictly indoor, so they can't bring any more fleas in.
I've lost those original 3 cats, but my new cats I have had for 3 years, and they also have never had a flea. No fleas, no worms, no vet bills for worming or any flea related issues. 20+ years and not a single flea, :-)drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.... cfm?

Oh wow - thank you! Yeah my cats are both indoor-only, but apparently there's a new feral cat next door (and my neighbor is thinking that could be it). Also there's a little doggie next door that scratches alot - so who knows who the culprit could be!
I'm so bummed. :( I've heard they can also travel through air vents, so what you are suggesting sounds like a great idea. I'll tell my neighbors too!

You're welcome, I only had enough Program for 2 months for the 3 cats, and that's all it took, never had to give it to them again.
Just ordered it. :) Wish me luck! GenelleH 4 months ago .
Good luck! Let us know how things work out. I hate fleas, and am sooooo glad to have been flea free all these years, its nice having cats that aren't scratching in misery all the time.
I will! I sooo freaked out cos I've gone 12 years with no fleas ever, so this was a huge horrible shock. :( GenelleH 4 months ago .
I use Advantage. One application lasts one month. Actually, I have 3 cats, so I buy one of the Advantage for dogs, which is $11.00 from my vet.
One of the dog treatments is enough for 3 cats. (The dog treatment is exactly the same formula but has 3x as much in it. ).
So for $11.00 a month I can treat 3 cats. It's like Frontline, but I like it more than Frontline, and have never seen any adverse reactions, or, for that matter, any reaction, except that my cats have no fleas. For a bad infestation, you should also treat your yard and if fleas or indoors, get a home treatment as well.
Advantage takes care of flea larvae, adult fleas, as well as ticks. See:fleamedicineforcats.com/ com.
Awesome - I just bought some Advantage. :) Good to know it's effective! Thank you for making me feel better!

Good luck. Remember, if they're really bad, you want to treat your yard, and if they're in the house, get a good product, probably best to get it from your vet, to treat carpets and cat bedding.
I have the same problem. I use Zodiac Break Away Flee and Tick Collar (For cats). I also use a spray called bio spot.
And It works great. You can also try getting a flee comb and brush your cats fur. Every time you get a flee on the brush, kill it with your fingers.
You can also buy a flea and tick spray for furniture. (If your afraid flees are going to take over your home. ) You can also try flee shampoo for cats.
It's hard looking at all these options, reading about "harmful chemicals" that can hurt your cats, and trying to figure out what's effective and won't end up being some weird poison! Thank you so much! GenelleH 4 months ago .
There is Carpet & Upholstery Flea & Tick Spray by Zodiac (which is a furniture flee spray). There is also Zodiac Flea and Tick Sprays (for cats) If your looking for shampoo there are Bio Spot Flea & Tick Shampoo for Cats. Also, Lambert Kay Fresh 'N Clean Flea & Tick Shampoo for Cats & Dogs.
And Adams Plus Flea & Tick Shampoo for Dogs, Puppies, Cats & Kittens. And Adams Flea & Tick Shampoo with D-Limonene. If you need a comb you could buy Whisker City Flea Comb..Hope That helps.(: .
I live on the side of a mountain out in the middle of nowhere and the fleas REALLY like it here. We have indoor/outdoor dogs and indoor cats, so we had an issue for a bit...however we have had great sucess with frontline plus and the same flea comb that Tharnpheffa uses...I do like the sound of trekincat's Program though and am going to look into it as analternative to the chemicals in FL+.
Yeah the stuff about all the chemicals was definitely a bit scary. Especially since these are all basically "poisons" - I don't want to give my cats anything poisonous topically or otherwise, more than necessary! I think the Advantage and Program stuff should work really well.
Gonna stop by Petco for that comb! UGH. Bad fleas!

There is no such thing as a good flea! :~) .
Get your advantage type flea killer at Costco. It costs less than at the pet stores. If you have fleas in your carpet you can kill them using an alternative method.
You will need to put some shorts on and walk around barefoot the fleas will jump on you(move slowly)(hey your bait). Have a 35mm film canister partially filled with wood alcohol. When fleas are on your feet bring your leg up to your hands and press the opening of the film can against your skin just under the flea then use some card stock to scrape the fleas down into the film canister.
Don't bring your hands down to your feet because the fleas will get on your arms. Alcohol is needed because the fleas will sink and die. If water is used the fleas will float and they will jump off each other right out of the canister(survival of the fittest in action).
You have to have patients, balance, and not be afraid of flea bites and being covered by fleas. You can pick up around 200-400 fleas in an hour.
When using a flea comb dump any fleas that are combed out into wood alcohol for the same reasons.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
