As he's dead, the only problem will be if you have a legal claim on him that might be nullified by that legal document stating something inaccurate. But as he's your EX-husband, you likely haven't a legal claim on him, so it shouldn't be relevant to anything but a county-clerk error. But I'd be inclined to inform the county clerk of the error.

You might be served by informing the IRS that this person is dead (so his debts are dead, too. ) .

You should see if you can get a copy of your marriage certificate or your divorce papers to show the county clerk as there may be life insurance or money that is to go to you.

I have been told that because I am not related nothing will be changed. Only the next of kin can get the death certificate corrected. So I would ave to go to court with my records.

It's been awhile since I've had one but I think they are usually insured so that if one of you die the loan gets paid off. The insurance for this is usually added into the monthly payment. You may have been paying for it without knowing it so I'd check over the papers real close since I doubt the loan company will come forward and tell you if you don't ask about it.
