Find your atmospheric restaurant for Christmas Eve. There is a little discussion on this subject on Zagats.com. You won't be competing with as many people for a table at the best restaurants as a large number stay at home.

Then, on Christmas Day, volunteer through your church/denomination to help out for a couple hours with Christmas dinners for the poor. If you have kids, this could be a Christmas they will never forget...hopefully positively....just a thought... I really do miss Luchow's...

For a family, Cafe des Artistes. A New York tradition - still one of its prettiest rooms .

1 Call up some of the major hotels in New York and ask about their Christmas Buffets. They will fax a menu to you as well. I am going to the Thanksgiving Buffet in the lton Hotel in Westchester and the Christmas one is similiar.

Very high class with a dessert table to knock your guests eyes out.

2 curious7777777, regarding your answer "An unconventional idea...": I was going to suggest the restaurant on the Rockefeller Center plaza, but it already is a suggestion. Relatives took me there one Christmas and it was very nice. They reserved a window seat so we could see everything.

The ice rink will be open with skaters. I LOVE New York at Christmas. Be sure to order your ticket for the big show with the Rockettes.

One time I bought them at the window and we were in the very last row of the highest balcony. Tiny little girls were dancing about a mile down :-) .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
