My out of town boyfriend came for a visit this weekend and my mother asked me where he was staying?

My out of town boyfriend came for a visit this weekend and my mother asked me where he was staying... and I told her with me...she went onto asking if he was staying in my bedroom. First of all, it really is none of her business to even ask and second off all, I own my home and I am 52 years old, been married and divorced, and have two grown children..she told me she was shocked and never thought that I would do something like that..What's wrong with this picture and why can't I get over that my mother acted in such a way? She actually wanted to stop talking to me over this.

I could have lied to her, but that is childish and I really don't believe in lying, but why do I feel that I had to even answer her question? You did the right thing...after all you are an adult. If you want to be intimate with your boyfriend, what better place than your own. Sometimes parents cannot understand that scenario and think with their blinders only.

I hope you had a great time with your boyfriend and do it frequently to keep the passion going! .

Habit, probably. I understand - I'm still feeling like my relationship with my parents never really progressed past the way it was 40 years ago. (Yikes, that's really weird to realize...) I'm divorced, middle-aged with a grown son, and I live a thousand miles away from them, but there are just some things... It is really hard to come up with a way to say "that's none of your business" in a way that doesn't sound hurtful.

But, I did have to do it once, and that changed some things in the relationship. (just curious, what did you tell her? But, it's none of my business either...) It's something I'm trying to be more aware of when I talk with my son, so maybe that's some good that can come out of the situation.

You feel the way you do because she's your mother and you're her daughter. That won't change. But you want it to change: you want to be able live your adult life with your adult friends doing things adults do while also having your daughter-mom relationship.

No one gets to have it both ways, however, and your question is a result of your having tried. Lie to your mom? Of course not.

You should have refused to answer her first question. But, now that you did, you're where you are and she knows what you're about. Now your relationship must progress from that point.

You cannot go back (nobody gets to go back. ) You can only go forward, so plan how you will do that. Heck, maybe you'll even get to have it both ways.

1 My mom would have said that too. I think they know...STD's are out there and if you don't have sex with the person...then they may marry you more. Honesty is good.

She is codependent or just wants to feel like she is still needed to be the mom....wants to be needed. Happiness...

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
