My stylus (and the entire head) of my record player arm are shaking when I play a record. What is wrong/what can I do?

My stylus (and the entire head) of my record player arm are shaking when I play a record. What is wrong/what can I do? I have a NAD 5020.

The arm got knocked out of its resting place for a couple hours and the turntable turned on while it was sitting on the record player (but not on the record if that makes sense). I went to use it and the sound was very warped. I thought I needed a new needle, but messed with it and it was fine.

Then after a couple songs went back to being warped. I then noticed that the cartridge (and therefore the needle) was shaking while it played. This is obviously the cause of the warping, but what can I do to stop the shaking?

I'm trying to mess around with it weight-wise, etc. But don't want to make it worse. Any suggestions? Asked by dobs8 31 months ago Similar questions: stylus entire head record player arm shaking play wrong Consumer Electronics.

Your counterweight isn't adjusted On the far end of the record player arm is a counterweight - usually a round dial with some numbers on it. What the counterweight does is provide just enough weight to balance the arm so that the needles rides smoothly on the record. What has happened is that the counterweight has either fallen off (in which case you want to find it) or more likely is has slipped to the far end of the tone arm, and isn't providing enough weight. In that case, you want to turn it and move it forwards - toward fulcrum and the needle, but just enough to cause the two to be in balance.

If you move it too far forward, it become to heavy and you damage your vinyl records. Nothing is broken. You just need to adjust the balance on your tone arm by turning the counterweight.

1 What is wrong is that it is broken. What you can do is buy a new stylus and cartridge. This user has been banned from Askville.

My record player only plays one revolution of the disc. Do I need a new stylus or arm? " "my dog shaking his head with saliva" "Leg and Arm Shaking?" "I'm just shaking my head in wonder..." "The arm on my record player will only play about 3/4 of an LP and sticks and won't go any further.

It seems to be jammed.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
