My water softener has a major leak, how do I set it to bypass?

Just moved into this new house and ever since I turned the main water line on (it was a foreclosure), the water softener has been leaking a lot of water. The water is leaking from the base of the unit. Its not leaking from the hoses or from the salt bin.

I took a picture of it:

It is a Hague Water Softener Pro. I even turned it off last week, and its still leaking water daily. If this is a simple fix, please let me know.

If its a major problem, I would settle for just knowing how to set it so that the water softener is bypassed. Heres the back of the unit:

I would like to know how to bypass the water. There is no bypass lever on the pipe leading into the water softener, except for the main water supply valve.

Here is a picture of the top of the softener:

Any ideas on how to bypass it? Asked by Cylanth 43 months ago Similar questions: water softener major leak set bypass Home > Home Improvement.

I don't see a bypass valve in your photos Generally a bypass valve is part of the attaching hardware and looks like an "H" in the connector line and has plunger like buttons on both sides that are connected internally so when one goes in the other goes out. I don't see that in you're photos but it could be because the photo is to close. Another type is basically an "H" in the copper pipe before the softener with 3 valves in it.

One in the in line and one in the out line that need to be shut/closed, and a bypass in between the two pipes that should be opened to bypass. Again your photo is to close to show this type, It could be several feet away. Here are a couple in line lever valve type: How to use Autotrol By Pass - Old Style Question: How do you turn the bypass valve on / off?

What does 61F do? ****************** The old style Autotrol By Pass Valves use a "push in" method of redirecting the flow. If you push the knob ( 46F ) IN on the RIGHT ( standing in front of the system ), this will place the valve in "by pass" and cause the knob ( another 46F ) on the left to come out about an inch.To "restore" flow through the Control Valve and resin tank, you would Push the knob on the Left back IN.

PUSHING the knob can require extreme force. A hard "push" with your fist, or a "tap" with a hammer, may be required. Sometimes engaging the By Pass fails to cut off the valve flow to the Control Valve 100%, because the internal oring in the center of the by pass shaft is not sealing 100%.

This common failure is the main reason Autotrol now uses a different design ( double shut off - redirecting valves ) for the "new" style By Pass for their Control Valves. And another type: Click Here for Fleck 7000 Valve Body Schematic Fleck 7000 Bypass Valve and Connectors From what I can tell from your photos you don't have a bypass valve. But I wish I could see it from a wider angle.

If there is no bypass valve then you will need to remove the softener and install a pipe in it's place or just replace the softener. Feel free to send more photos. Sources: Home inspector/contractor .

Not all water softeners have a bypass valve installed. However, there are ways to repair a leaky softener. Not all water softeners have a bypass valve installed, though you should still look very carefully.

Some bypass valves are located internally, and you don't have to manually turn a lever to activate it. A setup such as this will generally have a button on the outside of the tank labeled "Water Bypass" or something similar. If there is no bypass valve make sure to turn off the main water supply while doing maintenance.

You should also disconnect the softener from its electrical supply to avoid the risk of electrocution. The guide on the web site is good for fixing leaks if you can find a visible crack. If not I would advice making sure the connections are tight and there are no loose/broken O-rings in/around the softener.

2 Looking at your photo of the water softener from the top, the bypass valve (knob) is right behind and below that white plug on the right side of the picture. Turn it toward you but don't overtighten or you'll break it. You'll feel it get tight and stop.

I have one of these systems too.

How can we remove salt from water after it goes through a water softener.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
