NOT MEANT TO BE OFFENSIVE! Why do the atheists seem to spend so much time in the religion category. I am sincerely trying to understand.

If it is not searching for proof of God, is it trying to convince the believers that they are wrong? What gives? Asked by SOTWord 53 months ago Similar questions: MEANT OFFENSIVE atheists spend time religion category Society > Religion & Spirituality.

Whether or not you're an atheist, religion is a fascinating topic I'm more of a Buddhist, definitely not a Christian, although I think that Jesus was one of the great humans to have lived. It's a pity that more Christians don't follow Jesus' message of compassion and love and instead seem to concentrate on the ticket to heaven via his crucifixion. I don't believe that Jesus was resurrected; I believe that he died, end of story.

But all the things that have happened in history because so many people believe he was resurrected are so interesting to study.

Fascination My guess would be fascination. I think that people who don't believe have a certain thought process about it all. It is really interesting to see what people think and where it comes from.

Most non-believers are more interesting than believers in that they don't rely on the word 'faith' to back up their thought process. They look for facts, which of course there are none of. Believers can discount the lack of facts by relying on the whole faith thing.

Non-believers seem to be open to the concept of God if believers have proof, which never gets produced. I think it is an interesting debate and that non-believers want to engage however believers know they are right and are willing to even condemn non-believers to eternal hell for being non-believers. So, if you were being condemned by someone who doesn't even know who you are and what you are about, you might be interested in engaging as well.

Just my personal thoughts.

Religion category Well, it seems to me that both sides of the issue really enjoy, despite their apparent anger sometimes, to discuss and argue their beliefs. Perhaps they think they will convince someone someday, but we all know that's not going to happen. They enjoy the battle and to get all agitated about it!

Admit it, you all! LOL! Each likes to feel that they will write the most valid thought, the one that will change some minds, if not the world.

That maybe they will WIN the argument! They briefly feel the thrill of writing the most profound comment--only to be "trumped" by the next comment from the other side. It's a competition, a challenge to win an argument I think it's the same thing in any heated discussion.

Despite the appearance of being angry and frustrated, they keep coming back, right? Obviously, there is something about the debate that brings both sides back to discuss their beliefs. It's something they know alot about, and and feel strongly about , so that makes it easier to discuss.

Searching for proof of God? I don't think so. Trying to convince the believers that they are wrong?

That's more of a possibility. It's no different than liberals trying to convince conservatives they are wrong, and the opposite. Same debate, different subject..

I believe the search for truth should include the bible as well as all the information we can observe. I have come to this bulletin board because of a sermon by Dr. Chuck Missler. He suggests that ufos are really fallen angels that impregnated women who gave birth to the Nephilim which he believes are the Titans like Hercules.Dr. Missler believes that the U.S.Government is involved in cover ups like Roswell.

He wonders why they would keep this info secret to this day if it was only a weather balloon. At the end of all this interesting info he concludes that one must dawn the armor of God which requires complete faith in Christ as just as neccesary of a tool as scientific reasoning. Despite the fact that he uses this reasoning to prove his points he ultimately falls into a belief beyond reason and into a blind faith in Christ.

Does he deny that most parts of the bible are taken from earlier works (Gilgamesh, The Egyptian Book of the Dead, etc.?) I want to challenge Christians to demand the whole truth which at least involves discussion about biblical interpretation. I feel mad at Christians because I believe they are mislead and are causing the ascension of the very "New World Order" of global government that they wish to avoid. When the Pope restates that Catholicism is the only appropriate belief system it seems like old fashioned elitest, racism.

I figure Christians fall into two groups on this one. Either they don't think about crazy sounding ideas like ufos and the "end times or they wish to protect against this great evil. Christianity seems to fall short in actually achieving anything superior though.

It is just one of many ideas that add to the richness of live. Why can't one's faith in God come from simple observation of the sun as the center of our universe. That blew the ancient's minds as it does ours today?

This ancient astrological speculation gave rise to scientific reasoning and trigonometry. What would Christians have without the rest of the world outside the bible? Isn't it obvious that people wrote the bible and others approved changes that supported their own interests?

If you believe that the Jews are lost because they don't accept Christ as their saviour, is it not possible that modern Christians could miss out on a similar greater truth? Would would protect them? The Bible?

Well, the bible requires interpretation, especially since it is translated and mistranslated from previous versions? Unlike Christians, I believe they have a place in my view of the world that doesn't require damning them to something like hell. I can understand ignorant people thinking God said to kill people of a different faith but how in the world would Christ sanction all the evil that is done in his name?

If I killed someone in the name of God you would know that I am crazy. Why shouldn't you think it is just as evil for the President to get us to attack what he deems "the axis of evil". That sounds like a comic book.

What's the next the boogiemen? I think it is safe to say that the people that wrote the bible as well as those that wrote similar religious texts were very smart. They knew how powerful the printed word is in shaping the landscape of future generations.

I see Christianity as a burden to overcome. It reflects a time where people lived around different belief systems and wished to wipe each other off the face of the planet so they could be around their own people. I can fully understand these demands, wishes, predjudices, etc. However, I feel that we must all authorize ourselves to interpret and integrate this knowledge into something bigger than a puny view that there is only room for Christians and non Christians.

That kind of thinking seems to reduce the world that we are part of. I feel notions like Heaven detract from the beauty of the world that is before our very eyes and open to scrutiny. What is the purpose of your faith?

My faith is in communication. I believe that our job is to endure the pain of writing this "Greatest Story Ever Told" This story must include all knowledge or it is only a pale interpretation. This is a blend of the technique of reason with that of imagination- both of which come from a set of rules that are those of nature.

Nature does not require books to be written to understand her..

I'm an atheist, and I'm not trying to conince anyone of anything If you could step outside your own bia, then you wouldn't perceive us as trying to convince anyone of anything, except that people can be wrong. It actually sickens me that Christians and other religions,at least the fanatical believers, just refuse to listen to reason. Some things are simply preposterous and should be scrutinized.

Lack of scrutiny makes for blind faith,I don't think there's any denying that. I take issue with people blindly defending their beliefs without considration to other proof, beit impericale evidence or otherwise. Though I am an atheist, and most likely will be 'til the day I die,I don't refuse to believe there is a God,I just don't see any logical reason to believe there is,seriosly.

The stories in the Bible and other texts I've read seem like stories written by someone on a LSD trip(no disrespect intended). I can't believe one single event like those whimsical events ever transpired. It defies logical thinking, and with todays technology, cameras etc,not one single event of the kind has ever taken place.

Why? Why don't these things happen anymore? Now,I do have to say this.My words here may seem harsh and critical, but that's the best way to portray my ferver.

My lack of belief should be equally respected, just as I would never try to convince any God loving (any God) that their beliefs are false. Maybe flawed at best..

I didn't realize the category existed. " "Atheists, how do you prove a religion if it never existed? " (13 answers) "Your 'Change category' does not work.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
