The story goes that in the mid 80s, Coke underestimated the cultural significance of Coca Cola, and replaced it with New Coke (which was sweeter like Pepsi), thinking it would be a welcome change, but were unprepared for the backlash. I now suspect something more sinister, and am wondering if anyone has ever heard any rumblings about this, or if it's just me? I loved Coke, so I stockpiled old Coke.
When Classic came about, I tasted the two side by side and they didn't taste the same. The only difference I could find was that the sweetener had a different name. I don't remember what the old name was (though I still have a can somewhere), but the new cans had "gh Fructose Corn Syrup".
In 1985/6 people didn't know what that was, now everyone wants it banned. I called their 800 # to ask, and they swore that both were sugar, they were just derived from different sources. I now think it was a ruse to distract people from realizing they'd switched to a cheaper sweetener.

Try Coke from Mexico. Many import it a in Laredo, Texas it is very popular since it is made from sugar. Is Mexican Coke the real thing?
By Louise Chu ASSOCIATED PRESS November 9, 2004 LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – There's at least one place where the iconic caramel-colored fizz of American Coca-Cola doesn't reign supreme, and it's deep in the heart of Coke country. At Las Tarascas Latino Supermarket, 30 miles from the soft drink giant's world headquarters in Atlanta, store manager Eric Carvallo adjusts prized bottles of Mexican Coke displayed at the front of the store.
He then points over his shoulder to a noticeably smaller display of American Cokes tucked in the corner. Associated Press Mexican Coke fans say cane sugar gives it a sweeter flavor than the corn syrup in the U.S. version. Sources: http://www.signonsandiego.com/uniontrib/20041109/news_1b9mexcoke.html .
You are RIGHT! Coke & Pepsi switched to high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) in 1984. HFCS is cheaper and has a longer shelf life than cane sugar (which was in the original formulation).
Unfortunately, its all bad for ya, and some studies have linked it to obesity. However, there are a few sodas that use real cane sugar, Jones soda and Goose Island, noteably. BUT, as we see with the trans fat outrage, the producer will react to the consumer, so don't buy Coke/Pepsi and tell them WHY.
And, i've read also that HFCS is especially bad for kids, so watch out on the juices and popsicles. I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
